That's kind of correct. Diamond is harder if looking at it's the parts with perfect molecular structure and along the edges. Significantly so. But if the average diamond is used there are far too many imperfections to allow for a consistent hardness. Lonsdaleite when superheated and compressed is as you say more than 50% harder than the average naturally occurring diamond as the imperfections in lonsdaleite allow slight molecular movement under just the right circumstances whereas diamond exposed to such forces would instead try to break the existing bonds in order to reorganize. Not an easy task. Carbonado, I'm a bit unfamiliar with. And fullerite too. My best guess about fullerite is it's made of Buckminster fullerene shaped molecules. Idk how hard that will be, with how hollow it is. Would enjoy some input about carbonado's structure if you can share.

I disagree. It's a pain to mold, it's almost impossible to forge anything good with it, and it's just too brittle. Steel alloys are the best because with the exception of very specific examples such as the hardness or temperature resistance of tungsten or the strength of titanium, you can make something best suited for your task without too much effort. Need corrosion resistance, adding smally amounts of chromium and vanadium works wonders. Need more hardness, add some carbon to get high grade carbon steel, then proceed to heat treat it well to get some of the best properties for edge retention. Want something even better suited for a sword, turn to spring steel. Add some manganese, silicon, and hell throw in some of that chrome vanadium too while you're at it. Now with specific heat treatments you can have the steel of your dreams. Bouncy but hard, can be sharpened, can be forged, can take a beating without heavy deformation. Even if deformed it can be returned to normal without needing to be reforged. Almost impossible to break from correct usage. I say, while I wish to all heaven and hell that I knew the secret laws that could get an alloy made of tungsten and titanium, it's simply beyond our reach. And as such getting super metals that can be used to cut things through while glowing red hot and still having no deformation or breakage is beyond our current technology.
