I'm amazed how specified her dancing looks for mo-cap Like I noticed how she keeps her head very still until she actually needs to turn it, and I feel like that really works for this style of animation
@RedBirdRabbit
@RedBirdRabbit Жыл бұрын
This is a really good demonstration of why mocap in film isn't just a matter of recording an actor's motions! Miku mimics the dancer's motions perfectly here, but differences in proportions make a HUGE difference in the energy of the performance. The shoulders especially make this super clear- the dancer uses a lot of big, dramatic shoulder motions, but Miku's shoulders are so thin and comparatively close-together that the energy of her motion isn't anywhere near as dramatic. In a production setting, an artist would use the mocap data as a basis for further animation, working to convey the spirit of the actor's performance more closely. There are a lot of Hollywood types that try to sell the idea that mocap performances in movies are 1:1 copied from data created through the actor's performance, but it's important to remember to respect the work animators put in to give that data convincing life :D

@@Dread_2137 That's not a kinect. According to their product description (this channel is from the creators of the mocap software used on the left side) they use a simple webcam or video file as input (no depth tracking like the kinect) and apparently use AI to visually identify and interpret the person motions and export the data in real time to your preferred engine (Unity, Unreal), which is pretty cool. They even have a limited time free trial in their website.

Also I keep trying to watch Miku but Akira just steals my attention away every time, she's just so electric and exciting to watch. Also the difference here that they don't tell you is how complex your model is, if you have a model with a very basic skeleton, you are going to get very rigid results like a cheap action figure, but if you get a model with a nice amount of extra "bones" or "joints" you are going to get a lot more realistic of movement.

a cool little list for everything the $25k model does rlly well: - the model is always on the ground, and if the dancer moves they copy it - there’s rarely any clipping, only in the skirt mainly - the model also copies facial expressions - no one mentioned this but she even has a shadow under her - the fingers match too - the hair never clips and moves kinda realistically - it can copy subtle movements like the body roll she does - its a full model, no spots are left unfinished - it even looks like the model exaggerates some expressions, most obvious at the end - it’s also somehow always on time - doesn’t glitch out with hard or fast moves like the spins, kick, or fast hand movements around the head - she also has heels but her ankles still move

She is a MOST impressive dancer and the fact she can be so peppy in such a goofy outfit makes it all the more impressive. I am guessing by the end no matter how good of shape she is in she is a bit toasty due to the garments. KUDOS! The left hand dancer is MAGNIFICENT for $100. Holy Hannah things have come a long way. The $25k gear makes the right Miku look like a pretty good approximation of a REAL dancer. The feet always matching ground level is very noticeable. I saw in comments the Miku also had shadows but honestly I did not notice it until I read that. I watched the anime characters for about a minute and then just focused on the real dancer. THAT is a problem as she just blows me away and the others are just distractions. OBVIOUSLY this is great for mocap/games/anime etc etc etc but the fact that I chose to watch a person in a goofy getup dance their heart out rather than "cutie swiss-miss anime girl" on left or "sexy-cutie anime girl" on right lets ***ME*** personally know that real people still out do tech wizardry .... Good luck Dollars Markerless MoCap you obviously have a winner on your hands. :) CHEERS!

Only issue is, 100$ vs 25K isn't a valid comparison point Yea i know the video is comparing an amateur user to a industry standard use but there's already tech within 1000$ that matches the 25K mocap in most sectors The movements aren't as fine nor are the details but in a normal use case? You can't tell them apart

Only problem is it's not as maneuverable as a skin hugging suit It is also a significantly better option than 25K for any user who isn't a millionaire or works with a company

Not really. The 100 dollar version looks choppy and floaty while the 25k version looks like it's in the room and is quite smooth besides an issue with the dress. The movement is so roughly translated in the 100 dollar one that I would say it's not even worth it, and someone should shop for something closer to the 1000 dollar region if they are serious and trying to capture full body movement. Of course, all the issues that are glaring to one person might not be so obvious to another.

@@Osprey1994 while you are not incorrect in any way, i think the statement here is more about the fact that for $100 you still get a decent approximation of the movement. its obviously not good enough for something like this, but if you dont need this level of movement $100 is a really good deal. for example if you you just wanted to capture a simpler animation of being in a room that did not need quick, precise movements, the $100 mocap could probably get you acceptable results

you couldn't do that though since you can only do one suit and the imaging one at the same time, she can't wear multiple suits at once. Then she would have to try and do the EXACT same performance for each suit, which is unrealistic, and any deviations would be difficult to say if it's the suit or her performance that causes any difference in model behavior/accuracy.

I really like that a lot of the moves were to highlight potential challenges with this kind of technology. Spins, arms going behind the head or body, arms going straight forward, moving between foreground and background, points of precision movement, head movement, etc. It definitely showcases the more expensive equipment that clearly spent money to address these things while the cheapest one freaked out. If the camera can't understand depth of field well or can only see what is seen from the front, of course it will have those issues where one that uses a different system won't. So I like that the dance was both entertaining and made sure to make it an honest comparison rather than something "easy" to give the cheap one a chance.

this style of dance is usually called "B-Boy"or "B-Girl" depending on who's performing however if you like the dancer featured in this here video then you could look for "B-GIRL AKIRA", that's the dancer's own channel on YT and if you want some more, then try looking for MobiusP, that guy's usually the engineer for the mocap (including this one iirc) and have mo-capped from various dancers of roughly the same style, so you might find something similar to this although he doesn't have a channel here on YT, the dancers that have worked with him do post the side-by-side (the mocap dancer with some anime chara) video just like this one on YT

Check out the channel of the person in the video, she does quite some original choreography: www.youtube.com/@BGIRLAKIRA As for the style depicted here, there's no one specific genre since it's a mix of a few different styles. The fast arm swing like at 0:25 is Waacking dance, while most of the footwork is House dance so I suggest looking those up. House dance is VERY popular amongst Japanese dancer so try looking up "踊ってみた" (lit: i tried to dance) if you wanna see Vocaloid song dance covers in similar style.
