Hello friends!
I’m Elisabetta, an Italian watercolor artist with a passion and a curiosity for art supplies and pigments.
Today I'm swatching and comparing 9 different brands of Naples Yellow Reddish: R. Szmal, Rembrandt, Schminke, Rosa Gallery, Lukas, Renesans, Bloxkx, Old Holland and Wallace Seymour. I'm also swatching 3 brands of a very similar color which is Jane Brilliant nr 2 by Hilbein, Shinhan and Paul Rubens.
Reddish Naples Yellow is a soft, opaque, peachy color that can be used in figure drawings and portraits,, but also in landscape and florals.
There are huge differences across brands that you might not notice unless you swatch them side by side.
Come swatch with me! And comment please!

I never thought to use that kind of lighter skin tone colour on a sunset. It worked beautifully. I need to think outside the box more with colours.

I was wondering if I want the Rosa version and having watched the comparison, the answer is yes. I also really like the Rembrandt and Lukas versions. Your sketch turned out so pretty, too!

The Rosa Gallery colors are a dream. You just touch them with a wet brush and get a ton of beautiful paint. I like the Roman Szmal and Rosa gallery the best. I am not a fan of adding white to stuff, but I guess if you want to get soft, pastel colors it is more forgiving than diluting the mixes. I will buy the PBr25, it's beautiful.

Thank you Elisabetta, another interesting comparison and so many different hues. I find myself enjoying both earthy and less vibrant colours as well as the bright transparent colours available now, so I may build a completely separate palette ( a good excuse for more paint do you think ? 😃 )

Hi Elisabetta, i love watching your comparison videos. They are so informative for me. I'm still really only just starting on my watercolour journey and find your videos so helpful to understand what paints colours and brands i am drawn to, having a limited amount to spend and only just getting my selection of watercolours off the ground, it's really good to have found your comparison videos. Thank you 💚🌟

I use this color for beach sand as well as for skin and skies. For white skin I discovered Flesh tint from Roman Szmal, quite similar to Rosa Gallery's but lighter.

Hi there! The best Naples yellow is from Davinci watercolors. Not white pigment at all. It comes from only yellow pigments PY35/PY43. I love it so much because it doesn't look chalky. I totally recommended. It is also used by the painter Paul Jackson. I hope you get to try it!

Hi!! Thank you for your comment! The bad news is that that brand is currently impossible to find in the us. They do ship to Europe but between shipping cost and duties it becomes complicate and expensive. The good news is that my husband has bought me 3 sets last Christmas…. One of them has Yellow Naples deep, but not the one you just mentioned. Thank you!! If I ever travel again to the US I will make sure to buy plenty of Da Vinci ❤️

Appreciate this! I had heard people use Naples Yellow Reddish as a convenience colour for light skin tones, but didn't think it would be for me. Now I am thinking maybe it is... I like the red/pink leaning ones best. :)

Ciao, Elisabetta! This was very useful, as I only have Schmincke's version. I imagine these colours would be great for old sandstone buildings ir ancient ruins. I have many of the single pigments that make the other versions, so I will try mixing some naples yellw reddish myself and see how it goes. I am curious why the colour is called Naples Yellow. Any insights?
