Quite happy with my HD Bluray. Just watched it, and it looks amazing still. Not liking the blueish overtones of the 4K, and read about other annoyances with this and Batman '89, so am sticking to my 1080s.

1080p = closer colours to the actual film, giving it a more of a Comic book style visual. 4K = closer colours to real life. Each version depends on the viewers personal preference.

What are you talking about who sees everything in teal and orange?
@oscartorres58645 жыл бұрын
I really have to say that the blue filters look weird on some scenes and some of the detail is lost in dark scenes, but the definition is higher and some detail looks better, so i would say 50/50.

People who are saying the film looks too blue. That is the original color tone of the film, and the reason Gene Siskel said the film looked like it was "shot out of an inkwell" when it came out. Warner actually recolorized the film for VHS because the blue looked bad on the format and subsequent formats, VHS and Blu-Ray have used the re-colorized home ent version. When I saw Returns twice in LA on a film print over the last few years, the film is very blue looking and the 4K reflects the director and DP's original work and intent for the film.

Such extreme and heavy color grading wasn't a thing back in 1991. And this 4K release doesn't look blue: it looks teal (+orange). What a surprise, just like any modern film. Yet another film that got the "modern" color treatment. It's so obvious it hurts.
@Jerry4050 Жыл бұрын
I saw this film in theatres in 1992 and never was that Blue. Same with the original Matrix I have it on DVD and the Matrix world was never that Green it was more brown. I bought the Matrix collection and was pissed off that the original is exaggerated green. This movie is more GRAY than Blue kinda like the color scheme in Edward Scissorhands castle

Why not just upgrade the video quality and keep the original colors? Let each viewer configurate their preferred colors. Not buying it.

I've seen Returns twice on film here in LA over the last two years and the original film print was very blue. One famous film critic said the film looks like it was shot out of an inkwell. The color tone of the blu ray was shifted for sure while the 4K is closer to the original film print in terms of color tone.

The Schumacher films don't have the blue tone at all. But the blue tint, particularly in Returns reflects the original film print. I saw a screening in LA just last year on an original film print and what a surprise, the film was incredibily blue looking, more than the 4k.

I know it's been a big point of contention with these recent 4K re-releases of 80's/90's Batman movies but I actually think the teal color tone works for this movie. Since the movie is set in the Winter, it makes everything look much more colder. It's not as distracting here as it is in Batman '89. My only question is did they mess around with the sound effects in this transfer like they did with '89?

Night and day from youtube, my monitor isn't hdr capable. Is not accurate to critic from you tube or a recording sound and image quality. But from this comparison means from close will be even bigger difference. I will asume that the bluish color of 4k hdr is closer to original than the blue ray hd, so it is more accurate. Beeing accurate is different than like it or not.

Actually the blue is on the original film negative. I've seen the film on print recently and its very blue. A friend at Warner said the film was re-colorized back when it first came out on VHS for home ent in 1992 because the blue-tone didn't come out well on video tape. They gave it a more silver pallatte and subsquent releases, DVD and Blu-Ray used the same home ent master. The 4k reflects the filmmakers first intentions.

I do not like this transfer at all. Not only takes away background details from certain shots but it is WAY too blue and over saturated. I actually thought the new 4k of '89 was great because it livened up the dull areas were color needed a boost but this is over kill. 2:02 you can literally see the normal color of the statues (Grey/Silver) turn to a Sky Blue type color.
@film-maniac5 жыл бұрын
It's one reason I rarely bother using the HDR gimmick. It changes colors. Can't recall the title but I saw a movie that showed a green mist. With HDR, it became a smurf-blue mist. No wonder some directors dislike it. So I very rarely bother with 4k discs.

I don't understand why everyone is crying about the new color grade its more true to the original theatrical release they only brighten up Batman 1989 & Batman Returns for the VHS & Lazerdisc release since the crt tvs back then wouldn't work well with the original darker look. The dvd release and 2009 Blu-Ray just followed suit with the VHS & Lazerdisc brighter version. I do agree they should of kept the original audio but other then that i love the new Blu-Ray HDR look to Batman 1989 & Batman Returns basically how those movies were intended to look like originally

Warner, it's not a Zack Snyder movie! I am so tired of everything looking teal and orange, now the classics are forced to follow the tired trend too? What's so wrong with natural colors and historical accurate reproductions? Let older movies look like themselves! They crushed colors to achieve the Snyder look, the grading looks AMATEURISH!
