This is super informative and seems very accurate. This will definitely help me choose a drive but I have to say x drives do not climb very well up the ramp, however other than that they are very good.

Very good video. The testing and rotational kinematics was very well explained and contributed very much to the video. However, I would like to just give you some sort of friendly feedback. Motors overheating is something you didn’t mention and it is a huge part of robots when they are in competition and it should be considered when choosing your drive train. You kind of went over this when you looked at the force each drive train produces but it is also important to know that the more force each train can produce means the more time it can take before overheating. For instance, even if you were building a robot that didn’t want to play any defense and thus you didn’t care for the amount of force it produces, you still wouldn’t want to ever do a two motor drive, even this situation, because a two motor drive puts the strain of moving the robot on only two motors and thus they will overheat very quickly even if you are playing 0 defense. This isn’t ideal at all in competition and it will effect your performance if you go to a competition with a two motor drive train.

So I just got back from a tournament(first in the world) and a 6 motor standard drive actually worked the best, the whole Driver Control was just ramming into eachother to try to get the goals(our plexiglass broke cos we were getting bullied by a 6 motor drivetrain :( ) also an X drive works well, just that u can’t have 6 motor, also it’s good that u can now use pneumatics aside from motors. Also we found that Rings got stuck under ur bot so have something to stop that. Also the only times ppl actually scored rings were doing Auton

Great testing with good principals, data recording and post analysis.

Something to note: The X drive will likely be even lighter as the chassis can make it a bit clunky to add complex stuff. Source: Friend’s team struggles with claws

This is good info. Well done! Variations in where the #'s don't match the data exactly can come from the environment and other variable factors. Dust on wheels can play a role in determining power and drift, especially given contact surface area, wheel design, flooring, and the overall environment. But overall, this is good stuff. Something to consider, with an H-drive, is there cost-benefit to connecting more wheels for your strafe motor. Obviously, we are increasing surface area, which increases friction, which requires more power... but does this big down a single motor too much, pending you are using interlocking gears for power transfer? Thoughts?

I wonder how a 6m drive or asterisk compares to these others because in spin up 6m drive is common

why not?

@@Ruby-jq7ty I don’t see any advantage. With the emergence of the pneumatics meta, 6 motor drive has also become meta. You would get pushed around helplessly. It would also be difficult to climb the platform.
