I went to Bilbao a few years ago. Only went on the metro once to check it out (the historic and central areas are very walkable) but it was a damn nice system and it was very interesting to see how stations dealt with the hilly terrain above.

The first inverter is an ABB-GTO VVVF drive, the same that can be heard on Hamburg's S-Bahn, Barcelona FGC 1m gauge lines and Milan Metro Line 3. The second one I can't tell exactly what brand it is, but probably it's Bombardier The third one (L3 Euskotren suburban), sounds a lot like a Siemens-IGBT VVVF drive that is used on the Nuremberg DT3 trains and Keikyu 1000 series trains in Japan.
@benolifts
@benolifts 4 жыл бұрын
I don't think the second one is bombardier. There are loads of bombardier in the UK, they are very distinctive. Are you familiar with train VF drives. I am trying to put some names to commonly heard drives. With the Nuremberg DT3 trains, this sounds very different to the Siemens drives that I know of. Siemens usually has a very distinctive hill start feature, where it puts 100% power on for 1 second when it first starts, then lowers down to the amount needed to hold the train, then powers back up as the train speeds up. Like on UK Class 700 and Oslo metro. A couple of others that I am trying to put a name to is the 323 VF drive. It has no pure PWM mode, it starts straight into pattern pulsing. And the Croydon tram VF drive. Extremely distinctive.

I checked for the DT3, class 323 and CR4000 Croydon Tram The DT3 says that it's a three-phase asynchronous Siemens IGBT. The 323 class says it has 4 Holec DMKT 52/54 traction motors The CR4000 has Kiepe Electric GTO drives

@@anfsabc_busotto The trams in the end sounds like Bombardier VF drives, similar to the Frankfurt Am Main trams.

The tram is a CAF Urbos (1st series) but i can't really tell what VF brand it has, even though it's a clear IGBT

The inverters on the 500 and 550 trains are the same (ABB), but in the 600, 900 and 950 trains the inverters are from CAF

Did you know that metro line 3 also has a Basque regional train to Donostia/S. Sebastian in Gipuzkoa, where there is another interesting suburban train line that crosses the border into Hendaye in the Northern Basque Country (which is under french rule)?

Those trams look very plastic fantastic toy-like with those bubble windscreens. They probably wanted it to be aerodynamic but the design ended up looking a little bit hiddious.
@CityWhisperer
@CityWhisperer 3 жыл бұрын
dykodesigns2yt well it works pretty well and never breaks down. So maybe it’s better to have a more “hiddious” tram that does its job and will always arrive rather than one that’s more “futuristic looking” but has a high chance of letting you down.

I think you watched my most EPIC and SPECTACULAR BillBow transit video before going there. This metro is famous for having been designed by Sir Norman Foster in the 1990s. He's a British chap don't you know. The carriage bodies and livery were basically copied for the just opened M52 Metro in Amsterdam, that shows you how ahead of its time this now 24 year old Metro was when it opened.

As far as I can tell, it is the same VF drive, but the pulsing frequency is set higher on some trains.
@benolifts
@benolifts 4 жыл бұрын
DS Intel, the metro doesn't use different power types. If it did, the AC or DC does not make a difference to the sound, other than maybe a slight 50hz hum in the bridge rectifier. Often on dual voltage trains, the AC is at a higher voltage. This is then reduced down to the trains voltage, but this means it has more current. If the VF drive takes advantage of the more available power, then the pulsing frequency is sometimes lowered to stop the transistors overheating.
