In this video I compared three SSL E Channel Strip plugins against each other: Waves Audio SSL EV2 Channel, SSL Native Channel Strip 2, Plugin Alliance/Brainworx bx_channel SSL E. Can you hear the difference? Which one sounds best?
Please note: Waves SSL EV2 and Brainworx bx_console 4000 E are emulating the SSL 4000 E Series, while SSL Native Channel Strip 2 is emulating the 9000 E Series.

You had a bit more gain on SSL. Difference is so subtle. I like how people hate on Waves when thousands of hits records were done mainly on Waves.

Really interesting and well done. I couldn't pick an overall favorite. I liked different SSL emulations on different audio examples.

You have done a great comparison, also the design of the video optics are 👍🏽 so thank you for sharing. I have them all and you didn’t show them but I like the SSL 4k at most … the emulated colors from this channel is so awesome 🤩

By far the best comparison of a plugin. Straight no chaser! Talking is ok sometimes but I think the presenter gets in the way of just being able to analyze the plugin for themselves. at the end of the day hearing is believing. Great channel keep up the great work and by the way thanks!

Thank you for devoting so much attention to level matching. It’s crucial! I have each of these and generally favor the Waves for a very smooth freq response. The BX is a little hype-y wherever booster was applied here. As this is a very important process for me, I’ll probably do my own comparo in the near future. Great work here.

I like this kind of videos! Lots to listen and comparing and no talking! Here ir for yourself ! Too often you onle hear someone talk without examples. This says a lot more without talking.

With Waves happens the same thing where it ‘sounds familiar’ (“pro, like a record”)because, just like with the SSL consoles back in the day, most of the music has been mixed with them. Whether good or bad… it “sounds”.

To my taste, 1) SSL, 2) Waves, 3) BX. But given that the Waves one ist almost always on sale it was an easy choice for me which one to buy given that the differences are really subtle.

The actual SSL ones sound the best to me. The Brainworx stuff sounds wayyy off. Waves, surprisingly close but not quite there. But how do they compare to an actual SSL board, that's the real question. I'd guess that SSL get's the closest.

I have all three but have not done my own comparo. Hearing this, I am no fan at all of Brainworx’s zizzy, overbrite highs. I have to say Waves takes it for me on every sample. A warm and complete sound.

I disagree. Waves sounded too sharp and cheap. Bx had the best when it came to higher frequencies and SSL had a bit much mid, Maybe could be used on a drum bus.

the SSL Chanel Strip 2 is emulating the 9000. As of yet there is no E Channel but that is coming very soon (maybe). I know Brainworx do a 9000k and I'm reasonably sure Waves do (the grey one?)

You're right, the SSL Native emulates the 9000K. Honestly, I didn't realize that SSL Native didn't emulate the 4000 console at all - I'm sorry for that mistake! This of course results in some differences, although in the examples it is set to E and represents the E-Series character. Therefore it comes quite close to the sound of the other plugins. I think the gray one from Waves should be the SSL 4000 G - Series. All the best, Michael

the channel strip 2 by ssl is 9000 G i think redo it with the new ssl 4000 E
