I took care of my mom, who had demenita, for seven years. I was an only child, and we lived out in the country, so had no help. One thing that helped me was photography. I looked for beauty every day. And amazing beauty was all around me. A flower, a bird, a a web with dew on it, a leave that looks like a heart, a bee gathering nectar. Find a piece of beauty each day. Hang on to that for the day. And when tomorrow comes, find beauty again. And always, create your day with love, kindness, joy and gratitude for all things great, small, or unseen who share this planet with us. Because we are ALL made from God's same stardust.

Sometimes we bless God for giving us the privilege to care for our aged. My octogenarian mother has been with me for than 10 years now. Though I usually get her a caregiver but her screams of pains especially in the middle of the night, destabilises me. But I see it as a rare privilege to be the one taking care of her.

6 years on the street as a taxi cab councilor for the homeless. Myself homeless at the time. Now in sober living house and I see the fatigue in my housing manager and the owner of the program. I see it in Valeo transitional staffing case managers. I see it in any volunteers in all associates from the Rainbow Center to Greenpeace. This needs to go VIRAL NOW!

All my plans for myself have been put on hold ever since my mother had a stroke and I had to step up to help take care of her with my dad and my younger brother. I thought I was doing something really good until I saw myself in the mirror. I looked so tired. And it didn't take long for me to realize and feel that I have been physically, emotionally and mentally exhausted. I have neglected myself and I realized how much time I have invested in others and none for myself. I haven't seen my friends for years except my best friend. Recently, I have been suffering from hair loss due to stress and I have been quite irritable. I have cared so much about others but they haven't really cared much to ask how I am doing, not even my own parents. It's frustrating. Listening to this just made me cry. Thank you so much for this video. I will see to it that I take some time for myself and invest more in myself. Thank you so much. Sending love.

Actually, there is no such thing as compassion fatigue. Burnout and other mental disorders arise from empathic distress, which arises from excessive empathy. Compassion, on the other hand, generates positive feelings of love and warmth and strengthens personal resources. Furthermore, it can help to prevent or reduce empathic distress. For further information have a look on the research of Tania Singer and Matthias Bolz (2013).

Empathy & compassion are intertwined and there isn't a whole lot of difference. Anyone dealing with a lot of stress and constant caregiving/suppervision of another needs relief from time to time and a diversion. Save yourself. "Burnout" occurs in business & personal life.

@@halweilbrenner9926 I beg to differ. Compassion can be fleeting. And it can come in varying degrees. Empathy on the other hand requires a level of compassion AND an almost magnetic attraction to feeling EXACTLY what another feels and needs, all in the vein of wanting to help, aid or assist so as to separate another from their pain. With all due respect, being an empath can become a full time job if you have not learned how to manage your energy so that you're not constantly depleted.

@@ladybird491 I never stated that compassion IS fleeting (for me) or anyone else, I said 'it can be'. I have seen firsthand people show amazing levels of compassion in one breath then turn and become cold, callous and uncaring in the next. Take members of MY family for instance.
