In this fourth lesson, we go further in the blood gas interpretation and cover the various types of compensation that your patient would be exhibiting, as well as how to identify each one.
We start out discussing what compensation is and what is happening inside the body when our patients are experiencing disturbances in their pH and blood gases, as a result of either a respiratory or metabolic process. We explain how the body attempts to compensate for these disturbances as well as what we should expect to see.
From there, we move on to more practice examples and walk through each one making sure to lay the foundation for the information that was just learned.
Hopefully by the end of this lesson you will feel confident in your ability to take an ABG result and be able to interpret it successfully!
