Complete band saw gear box rebuild, guide bearing and motor bearing replacement repair teardown

I got this band saw at an estate auction for $25. It was pretty rough, so I expected to have to do some work on it beyond chipping away the big chunks of rusted on metal dust. I ended up replacing the bearings on the band guides. I also disassembled the motor to replace a bad bearing and stop the centrifugal switch from squeaking (clean and grease). At this point I thought I was done, but on my test cut, the saw started to make a terrible noise. I opened the gear box and realized the bearings on the input shaft had exploded. So I rebuilt the gear box with all new bearings and seals, and 2 new snap rings. After this, the saw cut nicely! It could probably use a new blade, but it's good for now. The gear box is similar to most horizontal metal cutting band saws, including central machinery from harbor freight. This saw is a Jet OCP 03-03 7 x 12 hydraulic feed metal cutting saw. restoration / full rebuild.

After pulling out the destroyed bearing out of the gearbox, I'd be inclined to use zz bearings instead of 2rs. Lots of great work here

Nice job getting the saw back into a usable state. It is refreshing to see a video where the machine is actually serviced for use rather than just cleaned and made to look pretty with a rattle can.

The other hole is to put the rear jaw further back so you can cut wider stock. Smart thing is to put it there and leave it there. (Ours has been there for like 20 years and we use the say an average of 15 hours a week.50 weeks a year. Just a hot tip, You had enough wear and slop to get away with it but on a new set,,,,especially bigger stuff,,,, You ALWAYS install the wheel first and then thread the worm into it. You will find the worm wheel in good shape has a concave shape to it and the worm OD fits the bottom of it. YOU cannot beat the wheel past the worm without damaging it. Remember, Wheel then Worm. Last year I saw supposed union millwrights destroy a $20,000 worm and wheel set by trying to force the wheel past the worm with a 100 ton Portapower jack. One more time Wheel first!

What it the adjustment screw on the from of gear box cover? On my WMC 712 it looks like a rachet end

I don't remember any adjustment on the front of the gear box cover without going back to watch the video. I do believe there is a breather threaded into the cover - could that be it?

I'm probably too late, but do you have a blueprint of the shaft? It looks like I have a similar saw and the shaft is beyond repair (

I don't have prints for either shaft, sorry. But maybe if you measure some of it and spec the bearing surfaces based on whatever bearing size is used, you could make something that would work.
