Jordan Nexhip Great work! I used to play piano (my school offered free music courses and I joined) but at that time I felt bored and didn't really have the wish to learn how to play an instrument, I did not put any effort in it... and of course now I regret that choice. May I ask you how you did learn by yourself? I would like to start playing again (considering that I already know the basics and have a piano). Your improvement was... stunning. Give me some advices, please! Love from Italy!

Damn the piano community is harsh. I thought this was incredible, but apparently there are so many backseat Mozart’s commenting. Not everyone can afford a real piano. Also, why so much criticizing on the music he plays? So what if it’s all pop. Would you rather him play music he does not enjoy? That defeats the purpose of music. I’m sticking to guitar...
@BrandonMcBadass6 жыл бұрын
Garrett Rose but if i only played swing, I can only do swing. Diversifying your playing skills is important. In my band class in high school, we didn’t only do marches, and that’s the reason why. We did 1 March, 1 Classic, 1 theme, and a random one for each of our concerts.

As someone who’s played the piano for a very long time, I’d like to say that your dedication and vast improvement over such a short time is extremely impressive. I have no idea what songs you play, reading the comments it seems like they mostly come from anime, if I’m not mistaken. I did recognize fur elise however, (of course) and I was really shocked when you were having a tough time with it, given that you were playing long single-hand runs not long after. If you struggled with fur elise, (which is definitely a beginner to intermediate piece) I think it might be because you’ve developed a bad hand posture and don’t revise your fingering. Luckily these are easy habits to break. Practice keeping your wrists further above the keyboard and your fingers slightly curled. This will make it much easier to get leverage on the keys and improve your ability to control your volume. Also when you begin a piece, make sure you’re not playing with convoluted fingering, because after you’ve muscle memorized the wrong fingering it can be very difficult to change to something better. Finally, consider playing pieces which require a softer touch, use staccato, have triplets, slurs, and dotted rhythms, have a different time signature, (like waltzes), have changes in dynamics and maybe later, have cross-rhythms. Classical music almost always uses multiple of these elements of composition, which is why piano teachers usually teach classical music: it makes learners better rounded. If the music you currently play has some of these elements, I’d encourage you to pay attention to those. But seriously give classical a shot, it won’t bite. Good luck

Hey man, I'm 17 and I just wanted to thank you for sharing this. All my friends who play instruments have been doing so since they were very young (I know a kid whos been playing piano since he was 4) and I've always wanted to get into piano or guitar or anything really, but I was always intimidated thinking that it was too late to get into anything at this stage. So thank you for showing me that it's never too late to get into anything. I mean even past the two month mark you were playing a lot better than I would think someone at that stage could play. Awesome job.

I definitely see alot of improvement from your first day to a year and a half later. The only piece of advice I think I should share with you about learning piano is remember its not about just about the end goal of finishing the song, but everything in between. Right now you're playing like you are in a rush to learn and build on to the next song (which is cool), but you really need to work on the fine detail of every key you hit. For example your flourishes are wonderful and on point, but your base keys are muddled and kind of gummed up. Keep it up though!

Youve made some nice progression. I mainly want to give you one tip on what I think is important for further growth: Relax. In your playing, yes, but also your hands and fingers. I often see people play with really unrelaxed hands. Sometimes even downright stiff. Take a breather, let your hands chill, and try to keep them that way throughout the entire performance. It will greatly help you maintain a flow and will improve the sound of your playing as a bonus. One way to learn this is by trying to move your hands less, especially vertically. Also don’t lift your fingers more than necessary. Keep it to minimal hand acrobatics to reach maximal relaxation and thus a good physical and musical flow. Good luck! :D
@borstingphotography6 жыл бұрын
@Banaan Banaan It still applies. Big or small hands. This guy has good progression, but he has the habit that all beginners have. he is hitting every single note very hard and have a stiff hand posture.
@PedroMachadoPT6 жыл бұрын
True. That's an effect of self study. A piano teacher woulf have corrected his technique from day one. He needs to practice very slowly, do some scales, learn classical music, in order to correct his hands technique. He's hammering the keys.

I love dude post a video to showcase progression, (I'm assuming partially to stimulate/convince others that it's worth the effort, but obviously also because he's rightfully proud of what he was able to accomplish) and people automatically jump on telling him what he needs to do better. I didn't read where it said, "look at my progression after 18 months, please critique my technique". Anyway, dedication and perseverance pay off. 500 hours in a year and a half, boom. Try 'mariage d'mour' by George Davidson. Pretty easy, very gratifying and I found helped me become better all around. And Erik Satie pieces, really helped me feel the keys. Good stuff man.

I grew up taking lessons as a kid and gave it up when I was in HS. Since then, I would fiddle around with the piano once in a while but never serious about it. I'm 30 now and have been taking the piano serious over the last 2 months. I am making great progress in the last 2 months, but it is easy to get discourage, especially when it feels like you can't break down some of these walls. Thanks for the video, man. It's truly an inspiration. The 'Heroic' Polonaise by Chopin is currently a goal of mine.

i Love how you just kept on going. i Love the way you JUST DID IT and how you actually keep hitting the keys IRRESPECTIVE of tone accuracy, but how you actually built your Rhythm skills COMPLETELY INDEPENDENT of tonality. That's something most people grossly underestimate (thinking that tonality ALONE is everything and Not being able to TELL that their Rhythm is improving dramatically in the midst of wrong notes). 😍🥰😍😍😍

Because you only stay motivated if you truly enjoy what you're playing. I've only practised piano covers of edm songs and I've been playing for a year now. You're coming along well, and I can see that you've got the aptitude for it; and I'd like, If I may, point out a couple of things that will really help you in your journey. I can also see that you are able to discern specific lines that are not yet as rhythmically precise and fluid as the piece aims to be, and where you want them to be. Take the Mozart Sonata in C, for example, not an easy piece, so awesome that you're willing challenge yourself like that. With that said, I can see that you are maybe in a hurry to reach your desired performance level, and that hurry shows in you rushing the piece, or playing the lines faster than you're able to do at the moment, or than they really even need to be. Here's my advice, slow down and focus more on the quality of every note, more than the quantity or speed, slow your metronome down by say 10 or 15 BPM (Beats per minute) and really let the notes individually speak. Let them sing.. As I often say to my students, It's your hurry that is slowing you down, and if are willing to slow down, you will actually get there faster! I'm sure you're aware of this to a degree, but take it even further, until everything flows smoothly and musically. Anyway if you haven't heard Mitsuko Uchida's version of this piece already, it's a world class example of what I am talking about. Oh, and a metronome is your BEST friend, really! Keep going! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pqplbNGIqs-Yd30.html

You're welcome. And your genuine appreciation and receptivity is warmly received as well. Have you listened to the Mozart performance from the link I shared? Whenever you get around to it, it really is an amazing performance and interpretation.

Just keep playing different songs been taking piano for about 3 years plus now. It’s start really slow there’s no real trick behind it just play a lot of songs and you’ll get accustomed to it. But you really need to practice. If you wanna get good fast practice at least 3 hours everyday for 3 months that should get you up to speed. I practiced 8 hours a day everyday for 3 months.

If you learn to read sheet music it will help immensely more. You will be able to learn songs faster than synthesia, and you will remember them. I did synthesia at first and I always had a few notes wrong in my performance, and I always had to look at my left hand. I still look sometimes, but man I make a whole lot less mistakes and overall am so much more comfortable with playing. 1. Get a teacher 2. Get a weighted digital or used upright (not spinet) 3. Practice consistently with good form 4. Over time you WILL be a better pianist or Use synthesia or simply piano = results may vary...
