Three of my brothers and me started doing handyman work in 1975 as 3 of us and our Dad had worked for a mobile home company that went under during that recession. Over the years we all got contractor licenses in electricity, plumbing, heating @ air, floor covering and general contracting. We are a very close family as you folks are and we still do major projects at each others home as it comes up. It is so much fun working with people you love and that is why I really relate to your channel. The counter top looks amazing by the way. Back splash idea really worked out beautiful. So happy Mama is happy with it all, as us men know, this is extremely important!

Every time I watch one of your videos, I end up feeling a little sad. Mostly because my dad, who was a union carpenter, never ask me to help him nor allowed me to help him build anything. In fact, I had to learn how to correctly hold a hammer from a preacher man who went back to being a contractor. You kids are so lucky to have a mom & dad like you have. May God continue to bless and keep all of you safe and happy!

I enjoy building things and my parents were into automechanics... so I learned be trials, watching others, reading build it books, and asking everyone I thought might know. There are some good trim works in my home, some crooked walls and and I'm humbled by of all I've learned .. Richard, it makes me a little sad that folks don't want to learn or do these things... Being single at this point in my life I hope my grandchildren will want to learn more... I'd love to have more imperfect experiences with my home!

OMG. i have a totally POS sander that i bought YEARS ago, and the little metal doodlydoo that holds the paper, broke first time, so it's been in my box of stuff to be turned into something else, but using it as a concrete vibrator for the countertops.... BRILLIANT!!! see? NEVER throw anything away...

I am so glad that Gary is doing so well, please pray for my Dad he also had lymphoma chemo got rid of it for a while but now it is back and is not responding to the chemo so they are changing to stronger chemo next week. Your kitchen is absolutely beautiful I love the counter tops.

I made a large concrete hearth poured in situ and used my orbital sander to vibrate the sides to help remove the air bubbles and it worked.

ive done concrete counters 3 times once in silver, 2 times in black. all three really popped in color, polished to 3000 grit. i did two out door 24inch by 24 inch post caps in brown for big rock gate post out at a begining of driveway. they are all are over12 years old now , and still look great. and are tough as anything else out there. you will be happy with your counters for decades. tip ? get some rubber silicone type stick on pads/feet for your cutting blocks to raise them up above your counter tops. it will keep your knifes sharp, counters edges nicer and look proud to be there. just an idea that is simply changed to or back from for cheap. great job, the removable curb is a good idea for a spice shelf too.

What a nice job and if you want more concrete counter top training just wait until I come down in April my cabin is one room, oh oh I forgot the floor is dirt with patio pads as floor I want to do like you did on the sandbag rooms mix concrete with the earth and water it down. Get that outside kitchen started summer is around the corner I will buy the steaks but who will cook LoL 😂 God bless you all and see you Friday 🙏.

Been binging on your shows. We love your homestead. Thanks for the content. I am just commenting because my wife and I noticed you don’t use respirators (minimum of n95 masks) while working with concrete dust. I work in construction safety, and a major focus in the last few years is on the harmful effects of silica dust. Massive OSHA regulations to protect workers have recently been put in place. I know right now is not the best time to mention masks, as our courageous healthcare workers need them most, but please just look into my warning. Thank you again for the inspiration. We want our own homestead.

I must say, This truly is one of the nicest cement countertops I have ever seen, and those butcher block cutting boards were the cats meow! What a unexpensive awesome kitchen countertop - I love the idea and I think I`ll try it too and I will make use of floor screed concrete. This is extra fine-grained, almost like dust and has a great creep function due to its liquid application mass, i.e. the concrete is distributed absolutely evenly and forms a velvety surface.

And look at using off-white or white cement powder for differnt colour combinations. Do test samples first.
