I’ve had my J7 for almost a week now. I seriously cannot believe how good this thing is. Not having to pick up cords and other obstacles before vacuuming is so nice.

Great Video. I wish my S9 was able to see in the dark. I'd definitely run it more at night. I am surprised this unit could work in pitch black. Even with that LED I didn't think it would work. I wish the LED could be adjusted for brightness in dark enviorments like it does when it docks.
@adamhahler42052 жыл бұрын
That was great! There's no way my i7 would have done that. One thing I have really liked about the S6 MaxV was it's ability to run in total darkness. I would be curious to see how it does on a full run.

Great videos. Surprised you did not have a cord down during the dark test, could you please do that? Would like to see if object detection works with a cord down at night. Also how do you turn object detection on? Mine just arrived and it doesn’t have the option to turn it on but it’s also still mapping the house so I’m wondering if it needs to map the house before it Can be turned on? It was automatically off with no option to turn on

I can't believe it's been so many years iRobot still runs into furnitures and baseboard HARD. My 980 ACCELERATES its speed before running into a non-white furniture.... I don't know why it does that.
@PauloHenrique192 жыл бұрын
non-white furniture does not relfet the infrared light, so the robot thinks there's nothing since the infrared was not reflected back.
@Commander_HW2 жыл бұрын
@@PauloHenrique19 980 has a camera, it's a low resolution camera that maps the house, it doesn't just see infrated lights.

One advantage Irobot's night running scheme has over lidar is it probably takes less energy to use an LED than to continuously spin a laser around. Not sure if it is all that much however.

I’m confused but this video unless my understanding of the robots software is completely wrong. Why wouldn’t J7+ be able to vacuum in the dark if it has already mapped out the entire house? Isn’t that what mapping is for…navigation? Wouldn’t it be able to utilize all sensors, plus camera, coupled with it’s internal “smart” map to clean well in any lighting conditions?
@williamthomas61062 жыл бұрын
Both the i7 and s9 have the same "floor" sensors and gyroscopes as the i3. I have always questioned people who say that i7 and s9 would be incapable of working in zero light but the i3 can. Perhaps the i7 and S9 might not be able to do specific rooms or recognize it's keep out zones in complete darkness. But at a minimum, both an i7 and s9 should default to i3 type navigation in a completely dark room. The Light on the J7 might allow it to maintain it's awareness of virtual keep out zones, and the like. But I as far as basic cleaning functionality, the i7 and S9 should be able to clean at least as well as the non-camera based i3.
@michaelbitter76822 жыл бұрын
Why not test having it go to that room in the dark... That would have been interesting as well.

How long did the J7 MAPPING take? My S9+ took ~24 Hrs for the FIRST map in a 3,000 SQ FT home, plus a few Hrs more to finish mapping (with ALL the lights on in the house). Then the map was WRONG. Then the S9+ errored out numerous times, in strange, unusual (but interesting 😂) ways after attempting to vacuum for only ~ 10 to 30 seconds each time. Rebooted 3x. No change. Back it all went to Amazon. For large homes I think LIDAR is the only choice for successful & accurate mapping. I’ve had 4 or 5 Roombas over the years, starting with the very first one many years ago. LOVED THEM ALL! But mapping large homes with camera tech instead of LIDAR tech seems to be very time consuming snd lacking in accuracy. I’d like to see a video showing how well your new J7 mapped your WHOLE HOUSE. Maybe there’s a trick to getting it to do that successfully????????

I have a 2500 sq ft home and I did the first map in 3.5 hours. You had a defective s9
@redbirdsrising2 жыл бұрын
@@JeffEdmondson Same thing here. Except I do have the J7+. I have a house about the same size and mapping took about 4 hours. Yeah, it's time consuming and had to recharge a few times, but now that it's mapped, it does the whole house in 90 minutes.

I’m curious to know if the docking process has been improved with the addition of the tag on the inside of the base station. I’m fairly certain the camera can recognize it and know the relative position of the robot to the base. My S9 (and others I assume) does a few wiggles on its way to the base station to help align it. I didn’t see much of that in the part where this robot docked. Perhaps a short video could compare them? Great videos!
