I am a in home heating and cooling salesman/tech in the LA area of California I cater to a lot of well known celebs as well as your average homeowner. This method that this gentleman uses only works on older homeowners and I consider it Extremly shady. It is deceiving at every point. I make six figures every year honestly respectfully. Sure you will make money out of 10 calls you will probably get 1 or 2 doing door to door. 20 Percent is crap! This does not belong in our industry!

I wouldn't let him in personally because I wouldn't let any door to door salesman inside my place. However, to his target customer base, he's a great salesman. He knows his stuff, his transitions are butter smooth, he had a few hiccups with the boss and man, and the I'm not gonna lie.., few others but, that's minor, he has the skills.

The savings are grossly miscalculated. The customer does not save on delivery charges, and Robert included the water heater rental charge as well. Also, the idea that efficiency gets reduced by 1% per year is a myth.

This is so bad. Who would ever trust this guy to even come into their house? He is a total scammer! I love the part when he says he wants to test the water and opens the relief valve. The crud in the water heater will get stuck under the seat and cause it to leak by a large portion of the time. And what would the scammer say when it starts leaking? "Boss you have a bad relief valve i'll schedule someone to come replace it on thursday for $450"?

Seeing all those rings on his fingers and hearing him say, "boss" all the time I would have just thanked him for his time and closed the door. I hate talking to people that say, "Does that make sense?" They say it when it is completely clear and couldn't be confusing but they say it in place of "do you understand?"

The savings are calculated very similar to how Robert did it however, the furnace is only responsible for about 70% of the gas bill. Yes, he did include the protection plan.. because if you rent your furnace, you no longer need the protection plan in most cases. Obviously this is all a little exaggerated but if your furnace is old, your furnace is old! alright so we have the HVAC sales. But the customer and the salesman also realized clouding and sedimentation. What's missing from this equation? To avoid sedimentation wouldn't you also need a water filtration system. Many of the units have them already built in, But are they timed. I have a filtration system that filters the water between midnight and 3 AM when the least amount of water is used. As well as winter furnaces. They have a filtered bypass system to maintain the heat while the water system is filtering much like a battery backup when you're running a Solar power system. Does your company also sell water filtration systems ( fibre glass units)

Since I am in sales for over 30 years, I must give you an advise that you will truly appreciate.Body language is everything. If you engage like that by stepping up at people's doors and flashing your badge on people's faces my friend, you will have a problem from the start. The fake laugh and the loud talking will not impress anybody in today's marketplace. You have to be yourself, not sound like a fast talker, not sound like a salesman or a snake oil preacher. You would have lasted one second at my door and I probably would have broken the hinges due to the way I would have slammed that door. Try again with a different method.

I was watching thinking this is satire, thought this guy is doing a send up of door to door cons. Now I know what to look out for, scam revealed. What was most scary, was potentially buying a new home, seeing the first gas bill and finding out I am being stuck with the previous owners bad purchasing decisions

Its taken you 25 mins to establish that there might be a 2nd player to be involved in the decision process, you would of been better off having the potential client biting at your offer at the door and appointing later and then pitching as all decision makers are there. Waste of time pitching to what we call in the uk one leggers ie....... single sits, a very common objection would be. i need to talk to my spouse. Fact finding is key in order to close and write business.

Well he is smooth, amazing salesman i give you that. But it is pretty much lying at the beginning saying, "im hear to make sure youre complying with the new eficiency standards." He is not representing the government. He isnt there to check efficiency standards. hes there to sell the homeowner a lease on a furnace. Its beyond smooth though, one step to the next is seemless. And in the end the customer can actually be better off, and this lie can serve them in the end. But i don't think id be comfortable twisting the truth quite that much.

Rental equipment doesn't ADD value to a home, because it's not the property of the homeowner. You're renting it - $720/yr forever after 20yrs you have paid $14400 and still don't own the equipment. When a new furnace is under $2000 installed.

He doesn't understand what makes a high efficiency furnace a high efficiency furnace. Venting out the side of the house does not make the furnace high efficiency, it vents out the side because it is high efficient. The furnace has a secondary heat exchanger that cools the flue gas allowing it to be vented with a pvc pipe out the side of the house.

A plumber coming into your home doesn't "put you to work", making him write things down, etc. I have been in door to door sales and there is no reason to mislead people like this. He will NOT be saving $ and his name will NOT be crossed off any list. In fact, in the area he lives he will continue to have competing companies knock on the door. His "interest" in his son couldn't sound any more fake and any real homeowner would see right through that. The reason this guy rents his water tank is because he bought the house like that. THe bigger companies like 4 seasons (I am Chicago based) need to sell because of advertising and overhead. THis is pretty sad. Noone buys furnaces from home depot. That's a breach of client confidentiality and most customers would be alarmed by the fact that you might be disclosing their personal information to other prospects. Excellent presentation otherwise.
