This is a complete install of the Air Vent model WCGB attic fan and power to the thermostat. We even run power to an override switch and show you how to wire that up as well.
Here is a link to the fan and switch that we purchased *:

Would be nice if they made one that was variable speed automatically. Hotter it gets the faster it turns. Also, EVERYONE assumes that you have a grounded house. What about those houses that have the old cloth wrapped wiring on ceramic posts? Paying $20K just to have the wiring redone is out of the question. Since it is in an attic where nobody goes, can you get by without the ground?

I know what you mean. As far as wiring this into Old knob-and-tube, it can be done. However, you should have a qualified electrician install it that knows how to work with knob-and-tube.

@@YouCanDoIt2 But but but those are EXPENSIVE. And local ordinances will outright DEMAND a ground. I just want to scab one in and have it work (NO PERMITS OR INSPECTIONS). I can do a sort of western union splice (wrap wire around another without cutting) Could even solder the wire if I felt the need. Or use a split bolt. Now another issue is that my gable vents are ancient. Non standard size (unfortunately so are my HVAC vents). They are kinda weird with little holes facing down instead of a real screen. And then there is the issue of what size fan to get that won't burn up because of restricted gable vent blocking air flow. I thought about installing a booster for the cr@ppy box roof vents. Again, there is that pesky wiring issue. How I know about the wiring? Had to replace a ceiling fan that only had that kind of wire and no ground.

@@crazysquirrel9425 I completely understand the price with a professional electrician. I was a licensed commercial / residential electrician for over 20 years. Knob-and-tube is one of the trickiest to work on...that is why replacing the home wiring with grounded Romex is the best option. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

@@YouCanDoIt2 It's OK. Inspectors would demand an upgrade to the service, main panel, and all wiring including outlets, fixtures, boxes, etc. Just to bring it all up to code. If I have to I can cut the single wire and splice in two boxes to extend the wiring to make connections. I think I would rather wrap the new to the old and solder and tape before going through all that. Dunno since I have not been in my cramped attic to see what's in there. Even my garage is ungrounded (detached garage) so I had to use a ground rod next to the garage just to install a GFCI I wanted. It is possible I could run a separate ground to a water pipe but I shy away from that sue to electrolysis issues I have seen before.
