See bottom for timestamps. This is a start to finish tutorial on the PPK workflow for the DJI Mavic 3E. This would also apply to the M300, M30, and P4 RTK. I cover every step using the Emlid M2 Receivers (same process as RS2+), EzSurv (but you can use Emlid Studio, and TopoDrone Processing Software to PPK the Drone Flight.
I cover every single detail of the workflow and I will have timestamps (chapters) so you can easily find the sections you want to watch.
Emlid just replaced ReachView 3 with Emlid Flow on Dec 13, 2022. So I will make a video on the PPK process using Emlid Flow and Emlid Studio (processing the data only with same data as this video).
Be sure to visit www.DroneMappingTools.com for your Lidar and PPK mapping needs.

As always, great straightforward content. Can you provide links to the gear necessary to put together an M2 rover. Do you have a LoRa hanging off the pole as well?
@DroneMappingTools
@DroneMappingTools Жыл бұрын
Hey Bob. There is no LoRa radio. If I was going to do RTK it would be using the free Emlid Caster service or using a service in Mississippi (I get one free base in North MS). If you had a situtation where you needed to use LoRa then I would go with the Emlid RS2+ Units, not the M2. For RTK via Internet (you have to also include a Jetpack with your setup to provide Internet to the M2), or just doing straight up PPK, then the M2 will be fine. The gear was the Emlid M2 receiver, and this antenna. You can buy the antenna from them direct or I believe Mouser sells it here in the USA. It is cheaper to buy it direct (I believe so anyway). www.ardusimple.com/product/calibrated-survey-gnss-quadband-antenna-ip67/

I used the M2 with an Ardusimple Antenna. I had sold my RS2 units and used the M2/Ardusimple units for a little bit. But I have since got the RS2+ units. The M2's are good if you are on a budget but I sure do like the convenience of the RS2+ units!

Thank you for your greate work! One question, what is the frequency of logging do you recomend for base station and for drone gnss (if it as a added kit)
@DroneMappingTools
@DroneMappingTools Жыл бұрын
It is sufficient to use 1hz on the base and rover for GCPs. You could use 5hz for ground rover if desired. The drone gps add on kit is usually set to 14hz. Hope this helps

Nice and complex video. So my question is why you choose ppk method when you could have faster embed geotagged photos with the rtk method. You use the same correction equipment for the both methods so the errors should be about the same. I get it that you have more control over the ppk than the rtk but does it really win when you compare effciency over precision and error control ? At the end you will stil compare with a gcp data aqusition.

@codywildgust3933 Жыл бұрын
Depending on the location you may not be able to feasibly run RTK corrections to the drone consistently if there are lots of obstructions in the area. (ie. remote areas with poor access and lots of trees/undulating terrain, etc)

Is your Base-Rover setup connected via LORA radio or all these independent logs? Is LORA worth doing in a PPK workflow? I notice that in Reachview my Rover says "FIX" when I'm using local radio RTK between Base-Rover. I didn't see Lora antennas -- is it because your EMLID are older and dont have LORA?

Really good video, thank you. Do you know if the raw GNSS files suitable for PPK are also generated when using the Mavic 3 in the Thermal version (M3T)?
@DroneMappingTools
@DroneMappingTools 8 ай бұрын
HI Cali. As long as you have the RTK module installed on the M3T then the PPK files are generated. However, I now believe it is much better to do RTK flights if using the Emlid RS units and use PPK as a backup if you have problems with your RTK flight. More satellites are used for RTK than for PPK.

Hi great content. I just wanna ask, can mavic rtk module connect to any type of base antena? Or u need specific model Like m2 base or dji D rtk base ?
@DroneMappingTools
@DroneMappingTools Жыл бұрын
For RTK it is not connecting to the antenna directly but rather to the NTRIP network. The RS2 may be the base for the correction but you are actually connecting to the network. So the base can be any base and not just RS2 or DJI base. For PPK it can be any base and you will use the Rinex file from that base to do the PPK processing.

When you have the RTK module installed, the Mavic three enterprise will automatically log the GNSS data files needed for PPK processing. You would then use your own local base files or a CORS station as a reference.

So I’m confused why do you need the RTK module if you’re doing PPK? If your using the RTK module with the the base station or a NTRIP that’s not PPK. So what are you using the RTK module for?
@DroneMappingTools

Hi Jon, the reason is that without the RTK module the required gnss log files are not recorded to do PPK. It is also a higher quality L2 antenna. Hope this helps.

What is the minimum control points you need per for a 10 acre property
@DroneMappingTools
@DroneMappingTools Жыл бұрын
If you’re doing PPK or RTK, for 10 acres. I think it is adequate to have three checkpoints to validate the accuracy of the data. But you always need to have checkpoints in order to validate the accuracy for your client. You can always collect extras. It is better to have them and not need them then the other way around. If I collected five points on a 10 acre lot, it might be that two of them needed to be used as control in the other three could be used to check points. It would just depend on how accurate the results were. I hope this helps.

Can I do PPK with this drone and the Dji D-RTK2 base station?
@DroneMappingTools
@DroneMappingTools Жыл бұрын
TTK Ironfist, you can can certainly do PPK if you are using the RTK2 base station. The D-RTK2 base station is for RTK so whether you are using the D-RTK2 or using an Emlid RS2/ M2 as a base, you can still do PPK on the drone flight later (as long as you have the RTK module installed on the Mavic 3E which would be required for RTK or PPK) I would think that is understood but want to clarify. PPK is completely separate from RTK. I hope this helps!

Can you explain why is the topodrone processing required? Aren't the images/coordinates corrected in the EZsurv?
@DroneMappingTools
@DroneMappingTools 3 ай бұрын
Myka, let me clarify a few things. 1. In 2024 you should be flying the Mavic 3E in RTK. There is no reason not to fly RTK if you have a Emlid Receiver or a Stonex S900/S980 receiver. 2. Emlid Studio offers free PPK processing for any DJI Enterprise RTK drone. (the M3E requires the RTK module) 3. EZsurve is software that I have owned for many years. EZsurv, TopoProcessing and Emlid Studio are all doing the same thing. But Emlid Studio does not do reprojections where as EZsurv and TopoProcessing do in fact do reprojections for the PPK processing. Hope this helps.

@@DroneMappingTools thanks for the prompt response. My question was mainly a newbie question because I am learning the data processing workflow from A to Z and all the steps required. Francois, TopoDrone has two versions of the PPK Software. One is PPK Procesing and the other is RTK Processing. When you use the RTK Version, it will expect the OBS file from the M300 or Mavic 3E. There will be 4 files in each folder and one of them will be the OBS file instead of a UBX file like you would have on other PPK systems.

Where is the Mavic 3 E setup and flight? Is your M3E connected to a free CORS or the base station? We don't get free CORS in Texas.. How does that work? Is my M3E broken? The RTK module will not connect unless it is logged into some kind of of NTRIP. I was hoping this video was going to go over all that. Would you please make a video on how to setup the M3E with the RTK module, no CORS (we can download the files for PPK processing), and with the inexpensive base and rover? Thank you very much.
@DroneMappingTools
@DroneMappingTools Жыл бұрын
Hi David. The Mavic 3E is an awesome little drone. If you are going to do PPK, then you only need software to do the PPK processing. You will obtain the data files from your Mavic 3E (photos folder) and then you will download the CORS log file (free of charge) if you do not have your own base station. The TopoDrone PPK Processing does an excellent job for that. If you want to do RTK, then you must either 1) have an RTK service which is usually very expensive. The lucky folks in FL get free RTK all over the state. That is the only state in the USA like that. In Mississippi I get one free RTK base. So I will take that. Option 2) is to have your own base unit that can provide RTK service to the drone. The only base I am aware of is the Emlid RS2+. You get FREE Caster (NTRIP) service thru them when you have the RS2+ so the only thing you need is an internet connection in the RS2+ and your Mavic 3E controller must also have an internet connection (via wifi). I hope that answers your questions. If not, write back and I will try to clarify.

@@DroneMappingTools Thank you very much for the reply. Definitely helping my understanding. So, just for my ignorance, if I'm doing PPK, there's no need for the RTK module on the M3E? Thanks again.
@DroneMappingTools
@DroneMappingTools Жыл бұрын
@@davidbowles5263 David, you do in fact need the RTK module (whether doing RTK or PPK). The RTK Module ($700) is required in order to generate the GNSS data files needed to do PPK processing. If you do not have the RTK module installed, it will not generate the files and it would be like flying a regular phantom 4 pro, etc. in terms of photo data.

@DroneMappingTools
@DroneMappingTools Жыл бұрын
@@davidbowles5263 David, just for clarification.. do you have the RTK Module installed on your Mavic 3E? Here is a photo of the module. (topodrone.com/product/uav/228/233/240/mavic_3_enteprise_thermal/1341/ ). I do not understand your issue when you say that the "RTK Module will not connect to the Mavic 3E". The RTK module just screws on to the top of the Mavic 3E. Then once it is installed, you just fly your mission and the necessary files for doing PPK processing will be saved in the image folders. If you desire to do RTK flights, then you have to have RTK service and you will enter your login details for the RTK service in the DJI Pilot 2 app. But once the module is attached to the top of the Mavic 3E, you can do PPK processing regardless of whether you fly with RTK or not.
