its amazing what has been done in the modelling industry, a 4 engine bomber in 1/32?? some years ago it was only dreams. I thing tough this kit could have been more detailed, BUT it will look impressive OOB. Thanks for the video.

Great video Andy. Looks like a lovely kit of a great airplane, just disappointing that there is little detail around the engines. I saw the Wingnut Wings 1/32 Lancaster at Telford last month and the engine detail was superb. Also, like the 1/32 Lancasters it would be good to have a option with one side of the kit being clear so you can see the inside detail if you want.

Love the Liberator, my uncle had worked on RAF Libs in India and Burma during WW2, I have his photo journal of the actual craft and would probably look to create a custom model. Merry Xmas.

Also a big fan of the B24s. Which squadron was he attached to? My great uncle was a bombardier with 358. I made 1:72 scale model of his plane a year ago. Hasagawa do a nice model in that scale although the interior is quite basic. Gonna give it another go with the monogram 1:48 kit which has good photo etch from Eduard. Would love to see you uncles photo journal! You are very lucky to have that.

@@chrisrobertson1641 Hi Chris, my uncle was part of the mechanics and ground crew he dealt with the Electrics and Instruments. I allowed the local RAFA Club to borrow it and they copied the photos I believe. I haven`t it at hand right now, it is at my parents but 358 sounds familiar. He was with the "Herbs" which I believe looked after the Libs with prefix "H", there are a few great little photos. One is of "Flak Happy" a Lib and others. I even have the Xmas menu 1945 from RAF PEGU 1945. The back has many faded signatures all in pencil, but I`m sure they could be examined. There are other craft, plus a few snaps of the Japanese "Imperial Guard" all 6` ft tall or more filling up transports. Plus there is a rough snap of an adapted Lancaster Bomber which was "flying around the world" but tragically after being refuelled crashed after take off. The photo album was my uncles' favourite reminder of the friends and comrades he spent 7 years with, I was mad on Aircraft and like many kids military hardware. But I knew my planes and through that, we sat and went through the album many times, which was special to me. He left it for me after his death and I treasure it. If you are still interested, contact me after Xmas. You never know it may contain something of your great uncle. Merry Xmas.

Now that is a big kit! On a related tangent, I've always wondered why model aircraft come in 1/32nd scale while tanks and other military vehicles are made in 1/35th scale. If both aircraft and vehicles were made in both scales imagine the diorama possibilities... Just a thought. Correct me if I'm wrong, btw, I've been away from the hobby for quite sometime :)

My understanding is that originally the Armour scale was 1/32 looking at Revell, Airfix, etc. But the Asian standard was 1/35 mototrised toy like kits especially from Tamiya, whom quickly improved and set the standard.

I will get one, as my father was a nose turret gunner on an H with the 15th AF. Sadly, Hobby Boss repeated the Monogram mistake on the nose turret plexiglass.The turret had separate glass over each gun, front to rear, and a center section.As molded, this kit will have a seam going across the top of the turret, where there shouldn't be one...

@Blargaldalien
@Blargaldalien 5 жыл бұрын
The H version was from Ford Willow Run. The Emerson nose turret was standard on this, as was the ball turret. Depending where J's were built, the could have a tail turret as the nose turret. Also the J has the extra little window, aft od the bombardier's main window.The H didn't.

@@Blargaldalien I should've know that I'm a lost for words was their a difference in the waist windows considering I live in Michingan and have been to their Thunder over Michingan Air Show a couple of times learn something new today thank you for reminding me stay the course Bruce
@Blargaldalien
@Blargaldalien 5 жыл бұрын
@@brucerobinson7295 Early J's had the open waist windows.A later improvement, was to have a plexiglass window and a sealed mount for the .50. Also the guns were staggered, so one gun on one side, was in the rear corner of the window, and the other was forward.

Andy, can you tell me why most of these large planes are made in 1/32 scale instead of 1/35 scale. I would love to do a diorama with 1/35 planes and tanks, but for some (to me at least) unknown reason, the manufacturers do not see it that way... I think they would sell in greater volumes in 1/35 scale as opposed to 1/32..

They really screwed up the clear parts. The top turret plexiglass is for a Bendix top turret on the B-17 when it should be a Martin turret, and for the front Emerson turret they frosted the clear sections of the plexiglass and have the sheet metal sections in clear. I hope they fix it.
