It’s simpler than that. We know 49 = 7^2 = √7^4, so the exponent of √7 must come out to 4. Which is √16 = √(24-8) or √(24-(√64)).

You should always check your assumptions when working with square roots. In this case it’s fine, but the argument on each square root must be positive for the answer to work, and whenever you square both sides there is an implicit assumption that the “other side” of the square root is positive. In this case it’s not really a biggie but you should always check

@@your_-_mom Depends on how far kedxv goes; should they stop once they see neither 12 nor 30 as x would lead to an integer result under the square root symbol (which at the earliset can be seen when they plug it in under a square root), they could quickly try 64 and then follow through. An open response question without any choices would require the more algebraic approach showcased in the video, but with the kind of choices offered, brute force would not take much effort.

You should also check that 64 actually is the correct answer, because square roots are involved. (e.g. √x = -2; square both sides; x = 4; but that's not true, because a square root cannot be equal to a negative power L = √4 = 2, R = -2, L != R

I just substitute the difficult part sometimes and reason my way to a simplified equation. Sqrt7 squared is 7, which squared is 49. So in other words if the exponent in the sqrt7 is equal to 4 we have a solution. So just set the exp equal to 4 and then it's just square, move the 24 away, cancel the minus and square again to get it. Essentially it's a easy logic step that makes you skip actual algebraic steps.
