Oral surgery (OS) has been and will continue to be one of the premiere health care specialties. Like any medical and dental procedure, OS comes with some risk of complications. Unfortunately, many of these complications are iatrogenic. They vary from wrong diagnosis, failure of achieving adequate local anaesthesia, significant soft tissue and nerve damage leading to impairment of sensation or taste, to inability to deal with intra and post-operative difficulties.
This presentation will focus on the assessment of patients attending for OS procedures in primary care settings and aims to identify the risk factors that may result in potential complications. It will also highlight some of the common pitfalls that can arise during surgery and provide tips for avoiding them.
