AVATAR. One of the most musically talented bands out there today. You should really dive into their discography. Very impressive stuff in there
@ShadowhispersBand4 жыл бұрын
Plus they have really creative videos and they rule the stage live. Seen them 3 times, always excellent.

@@blackandcold Exactly. I liked the album, and I was a bit hesitant to see them. It was in Wacken in a tent, and I was kind of too lazy to walk there from the main stage, but I pulled myself together and I was completely flashed.

He just said that it's not a powerful and loud scream and he's right - it's just about the tone. That's why he compared it to Gojira. You can hear when the guy from Avatar sings live that he has a harsh vocal style that fits to fast singing which is typical for Avatar (IMO) and not like Gojira with constant loud screams.
@bagofsunshine39164 жыл бұрын
@@Opranius Just cause it aint loud doesn't mean it's not powerfull tho....

... It's the same with his cleans in this song as well, it's a stylistic choice during mixing most likely to make everything sound more faded and desperate... to fit the theme of the song - it becomes more obvious after understanding the lyrics.

I think the boredom part is an intentional part of the song, if you really watch the video and the character...he is stuck repeating himself and the horrible things he sees keep happening over and over...during the war
@jaroslavsvaha60654 жыл бұрын
I agree with most of what you said, it definitely isn't for everyone. I think it's cause this was sort of a transition period for them, going away from their original melodic death metal roots, but before they really found their current distinctive style. It also probably has to do with the story behind the song. If you (or anyone is interested) me and my sister tried to find the meaning behind the music and the video. We think that the main character of the video works under some oppressive regime, and his duty seems to be review and approve or reject some kind of forms/requests. There is a house circled by a high barbed-wire fence in the dream, so it is possible that he is sending these people to some sort of prison or forced-labour camp. The dreams seem to portray feelings of guilt as well as the chance that he sent off members of his own family - the house with the fence, bloodied teddy bear, guard dog leaving his side.

Seems you like good and complex metal music. So, not sure whether you take requests, but the following three artists compose everything and perform for their own bands, all of them extremely good, complex and varied. Jari Mäenpää - Vocalist and previous guitarist of Wintersun - Check their Studio Live videos for Time I album (Jari themselves like how they turned out) Devin Townsend - He has a varied repertoir but, musically I'd suggest to start with his latest album, specifically the song Genesis (has an official video). Juular and Mighty Masturbator or Sumeria would be my personal favourite Heavy songs of his, while the internet prefers Kingdom and Deadhead. The Ziltoid Albums are also very amusing musicals. Igorrr - Which I can only explain with the meme: What Genre are you? Igorrr: Yes. He has won a Go Pro award for his composition Chicken Sonata. Tout Petit Moineau showcases the female singer's strength and what the band is about best, in my opinion. Grosse Barbe perfectly showcases the extreme vocal range of the male singer. And the newly released video, Very Noise, showcases the mind of Gautier Serre, aka Igorrr.

Totally missed that you did an Avatar Reaction, awesome! I must say that while they may bot be the most talented musicians out there they are certainly some of the most ambitious! They seem to always be trying to step out of their comfort zone and try something knew, both musically and otherwise. By that I mean making very creative music videos, full blown movies, funny web pages, amazing live shows and other stuff. For some bands this could be seen as a way to sell themselves, but looking at Avatar it really feels like an outlet for their overflow of creativity. They are also amazing mood setters. I realised that when reading the fable(!) that they created for my favourite album by them called Feathers and Flesh. The music really puts you wgere the story is. A lot of people recommend The Eagle has landed from that album, but compared to many other songs on that album, I think it is kind of monotonous. I would recommend Raven wine or Black Waters!
@CriticalReactions4 жыл бұрын
That's awesome. It's definitely an aspect that I don't get to see doing these reactions -- how the band evolves over time or how they work within other mediums. So thanks for taking the time to point that out to me.
@simonf9434 жыл бұрын
@@CriticalReactions I get that, a lot of bands and songs to go through! I would not be able to do that and still come up with something interresting to say, as you do. It really shines new light on some bands and songs to hear other people (like you for example) talk about them. Sometimes it gives me a new appreciation for a song that might otherwise have drowned in the ocean of other songs. So, thank you!

Dug into these guys a year ago when Devin was opening for them and fell in love. I think you would appreciate their more complicated songs like 'Lullaby'. It's my favorite. 'Black Waltz' is a great one too ... and it is a waltz :)

This song if i recall. Does involve a sense of repetition. Its about a guy in the kgb/secret police basically marking off enemies of the state and killing people. Falling into depression and dispare. Feeling less then human and feeling the weight of his actons.

Definitely check out their tracks 'Ready For The Ride' and 'Black Waltz' as they provide a similar range to this track but move along at a greater pace and feel more full. As for a different recommendation, I definitely recommend 'Moonshine Limbo' by the band Trepalium. They're a french band that have recently started blending metal with sinister sounding new orleans swing.

Surprised that you don’t pick up anything from the lyrics in your analysis? They are telling a “story”. Which you clearly see in the video…
@CriticalReactions3 жыл бұрын
Lyrics are a weakness of mine. Partly is because I'm so focused on the musical aspects that I rarely get more than a line or two out of the lyrics but also because lyrics tend to use figurative language and require deciphering and poetic analysis is a skill that I need to work on.
