It genuinely tore my heart apart reading that today. I am so angry at Bethesda and Marty, because I have gone through something similar with a really bad manager in a previous job. We will see what their statements are after this, but that document is full of damning evidence against Marty, Id and Bethesda. Thank you for sharing this Alex

This react channel: breaks down why the song is good and makes several different versions of the same track being reacted to in order to illustrate points being made. Hands down the most knowledgeable of the music "reacters". You don't just react, you analyze, explain, give examples and expand. The angles are amazing too, the spooky-angle of the "lead" never hit me but it does have that feel, but in a more aggressive way as if we are the horror.. and in the game, that's exactly what we are.

There's no chainsaw in this track, you're thinking of Cultist Base There is a lawnmower in TOTTFIY though. I don't think Alex reacted to it in this video but it's the "bass" that comes in at roughly 2:48 in the official OST track
@ShakalakaKing

@@DreamyAileen I believe it was Hell Walker actually, though I wouldn't be suprised if he used it in most the tracks. Its a neat sound that comes from it, and likely safe to assume he would of used it elsewhere. That said didn't register this was covering Doom Eternal, which had some issues with Mick if I recall. Something about the ost had some drama or controversy around it and the amount of it was made by Mick. Think he's no longer tied to Doom, which sucks if that is accurate.

I absolutely LOVED what you did with the Classical remix and I really wanted to see a Funky remix for this one and I’m glad we got one at the end! What I love most about this song is about how it’s electronic sounds are so reminiscent of the original 90’s DOOM soundtrack. It sounds so old and so new and goes to show how far technology has gone so that we can put entire orchestras into video games when back in the day, we could only have one instrument that played the most simplistic keys imaginable to give that same feeling our orchestras do today. It honestly sounds like Mick Gordon wanted to remind us of the theme and beat that this entire song was built upon, the foundation of this new DOOM and it’s soundtrack. He wanted to remind us the spirit of this old track, and he wanted to keep that spirit while improving the entire body. It’s absolutely genius. I mean, if you turn it into an 8-beat track or something, I bet my life and then some that it sounds like a 90’s DOOM track. Genius!

The dopest thing about the DOOM Eternal tracks is how they layer in and out depending on the on screen action. There's a lot of dynamism to how they did the "adapt to the level" stuff. Each level has 2-3 different intensities (ambient, light, heavy) and the tracks are dynamically mixed by the game engine to be appropriate to what's happening in the level. An example of a benefit of this: the synth arpeggios were actually previously introduced to the listener before the heavy bit starts playing, so they're also a callback/"return to the familiar" sort of a break too. If I remember correctly, there were also hints of certain note progressions in the ambient, but it's been a while since I've played.

I highly recommend checking out Mick's GDC talk on Doom 2016's sountrack. He goes a lot into the production and his decision-making. Also: something that you don't get out of the soundtrack version is that the music is built out of modular segments that can be played in any order, and what plays is based on whatever is going on on screen

Among many things, this is a tutorial on how to do a react video - He is not just reacting to a song by pausing and saying omg, that was awesome every now and then. Instead, he gives an in-depth analysis of minute details while giving us multiple variations of the song and how this song could have been in other popular games. Just like the song itself, there are so many layers to Alex's videos that you end up just wanting more! Great Work, Brother!

‘Maybe it symbolizes that the DOOMGUY is being haunted by his own internal ghosts, and that’s the source of his unrelenting rage against the demons. Idk I never played DOOM’ This is a surprisingly accurate read. The original plot of the first DOOM is that the demons killed his pet bunny Daisy, and he went totally off the reservation and killed every demon on Mars. In fact, if you scrutinize the cover art for the DOOM games, you can see Daisy hidden in the background. The modern games added more lore, where he was championed as the greatest warrior of a race of alien gods, even though he was human, who gave him his technology (kind of like Samus Aran from Metroid) and unleashed him against the legions, allowing him to direct his rage against all demonkind in their own hellish realms using the strongest weapons in the universe. But really, the underlying driving force for his bloodlust and quest for vengeance is still the same. RIP Daisy 🐰 The more you know 💫

just slight (not that important) correction: the doom guy doesn't find that daisy has been slaughtered until the end of the first doom game, as it was the stinger for "doom 2: hell on earth". the plot of the original doom is simply that demons have overrun the military compound and possessed all your buddies, so you're the only living survivor and you're fighting for your life.

Gotta say I love how you not only talk about what this music does as it is happening (or just happened), but also illustrate it with e.g. orchestral examples! Sure, it's one thing to say how it would sound like played by an orchestra, but to actually make it and show us is dedication and watcher friendly on another level! I'm not usually the type to go on "you've just earned a sub" rants, but this was exceptional! great video, great analysis!! :D

One thing that you can't really appreciate in this format is the incredible dynamic nature of the music in game. So many criteria such as your health, enemy types, amount of enemies and what you are doing can effect the music. It's extremely fluid and I watched a live stream of Mick and it's insane how much thought he put into how the music transitions in intensity to match the vibe of what's happening on screen.

@ 6:35 It might be a track for a villain, but it's also hauntingly fcking sad. There is a deep pain there that can never be relieved. No matter what he does. This pain. This deep sadness he has can only be expressed in savage unadulterated rage and violence that is never ending. Unabated. For millennia (eons according the the testaments of DOOM) in Hell itself. And the pain doesn't go away even when he wins.

Really like that callout to Animals as Leaders, the way the band operates is insane. Matt Garstka being able to finesse and show off his chops is one of the highlights of my listening experience, and hearing Tosin and Javier complement each other and leave space for super intricate playing. Everyone can handle the rhythm, but everyone can also bring out really good sound for the music they play!
