When their voices perfectly harmonize at 11:24, I can fee my brain shaking. It's so powerful. This is the best vocal performance I've ever heard.
@Smithysmithin2 жыл бұрын
Anders has some of the best, most clear, longest lasting harsh vocals there is. Seriously, every album, after over 20 years of this, he sounds soooo good. Live as well. Seriously! He's a god.

Great pick. I've always liked them for their warm doom with a sort of kindness in it. Not sure how to express it properly. Most doom, that I listen to anyway, are far darker and more depressing in their sound. Edit: Some day you should do Theatre of Tragedy - Velvet Darkness they Fear. They basically pioneered a lot in the doom/death/goth vein of metal and in some respects noone has managed to come close.

Yes! I have loved Draconian ever since I heard them the first time. Sadly I´ve only ever seen them live once, but every release they have done have been super.

Yes a classic! For more doom, I highly recommend: The Well of Souls by Candlemass(an epic doom masterpiece), Antithesis of Light by Evoken(a death doom / funeral doom masterpiece. Some of the darkest metal material out there, but also surprisingly emotional and nostalgic. They also have a unique sound with progressive elements) and finally Old Thunder by Ahab(if there is only one song you can check out, then do this one justice. Ahab is one of the giants of the genre for good reason). Ahab and Candlemass are the two giants of doom. Candlemass is the pioneer of the classic doom and they invented the epic doom by straying away from the initial horror satanic imagery and focusing more on the general religious themes. Ahab on the other hand is the pioneer of the funeral doom genre. Funeral doom metal is the subgenre that got doom metal its "slowwwww" reputation, however the masters of the genre put this slow tempo to fantastic use! They take you places, just like Draconian did. Ahab attempts to submerge you into the deepest depths of the ocean with their relentless riffs, heaviness and slow rhythms. But they also make it a journey with fantastic melodies, catchy passages and progressive elements like a good guitar lead. You get emotional and feel nostalgia. You feel like you've lost something, you can somehow feel grief, but at the same time enjoy the monumentality of the ocea. They truly embrace the horror and the beauty of the dark dangerous ocean both at once and present it all in their work.

Heard of these guys, but this is my first time hearing them. Really solid track. Not sure if I was super-wowed by it, but if I was in the mood for emotive doom metal this is definitely the kind of band I'd put on. I could also see this being much better if I gave myself time to acclimate to their sound over the course of an album, rather than just listening to a single track in isolation. Not sure if I have much of critical insight to add much beyond the fact I pretty much liked everything here.

Wishing that Psychonaut - The Fall of Consciousness reaction. Their album Unfold God Man from 2020 is such a great progressive metal record and that particular song has one of the sickest grooves of that year. Epic stuff and totally worth checking out.

Nice, Draconian's finally on the channel! Woot! They're one of my top doom metal bands -- absolute masters of mood/emotion and atmosphere, and as you said melody. Anders is among my favorite growlers across any metal genre: his growls have so much weight and emotion to them, and on top of that he's unusually clear for a harsh vocalist. So, I disagree on your take of the vocals here: to me they're absolutely a purposeful emotional choice, conveying resignation and bitterness. That said... despite this song topping many folks' Draconian lists, this one does not rank up there for me. I'm with you on feeling that the 15 minutes drags on at times, and the pacing is a bit off. It's still a good song, but I prefer the pacing on some of the shorter tracks on this album like Daylight Misery or Heaven Laid in Tears. This song is from their 2005 album (not 2013). Would love to see a reaction someday to their song Dishearten. It's from a much newer album, and the first with their new female vocalist.
@Kraakesolv2 жыл бұрын
Weird. I have favourites from all their albums but Death come near isn't it. Slow is fine by me but at times I find this one tedious. Moon over Sabaoth, Silent Winter, Daylight Misery as you mentioned, Through Infectious Waters, On Sunday... and more.
@chacecampbell26972 жыл бұрын
Yeeeees. This song and Daylight Misery are by far my favs from them. Found this album when I was like 13-14 and it was my first into doom, played the hell out of it for months on end haha.

I get a feel that the song hints at an existence beyond death, one free of emptiness, cold and darkness we all are forced to endure from time to time.

You should listen to Stellar Tombs from their latest album. They have new female singer, who is maybe even better than the previous one, and the whole song (and the whole album) is wonderful.
@trollinbastard89682 жыл бұрын
Another comment: This song comes from an album made in 2003 and not 2013 like you said in the video xD Also, the band first appeared in 1996 as a Goth-Metal band…and it was branded as such until doom was a thing ^^ Thus, they were, from the doom/gothic-metal community, designed as the precursors or at least, those who made the genre popular, of the beauty and the beast genre. Clean voice with a growl (as it was called before screaming/screamo).

Thanks for reaction. This my fav band since older ones gone. Waiting more Draconian. If you want to hear something simillar but faster look for second album of Tristania. Song called "Aphelion" will be fantstic to musicall analysis (guitatrs, drums, , strings, sopranos, choirs and growls, a lot of growls). This album is one and only - there is no other album like this one. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pdFklNWFsJPOlaM.html

Yeah, Tristanias second album is the best example of this "Beauty and the Beast" goth doom. Draconian is good but sometimes they can drag their feet a little bit too much for my tastes where as Tristania on their second album kept things feeling fresh from song to song.

I love their Turning Season Within album, one of my all time favorite albums. It's the most intense from them, and the darkest... I guess who wrote the music was kinda in a dark place at that time (which is usually how it happens, and how it should be if you're not in a good mood... Take for example My Dying Bride's - The Dreadful Hour. A crushing masterpiece), but man, that album is quite heavy for this kinda of doom/death and gothic (can this be looked at as dark metal? I guess not... the music is too soothing imo. I know Bethlehem are the main exponents of the so called dark metal genre...). Also, their last album is quite good - Under a Godless Veil. You should check it out too.
