I love this trilogy. Not only does it have brilliant music but also a solid concept about humans messing up Earth and making it uninhabitable and sending a group of astronauts on a one way trip in search of a inhabitable planet so that humanity can survive. It ends with the hope that we can redeem ourselves and not mess the new planet like we did with Earth. The first time I saw Interstellar, it reminded me of these songs that had released a few years before it.

Muse's generally accepted golden age (Origin of Symmetry to The Resistance) is full of absolute bangers, with a general progression toward the more elaborate and ostentatious over time. Personal interesting picks would be Space Dementia, Hysteria, basically anything off of Black Holes and Revelations (City of Delusion, or Supermassive Black Hole, specifically, but that's an album of 10/10s for real), and Undisclosed Desires to send you off in a different direction completely. Anything live from the HAARP show would also be fantastic. They still do good work post-Resistance, but the albums are a bit more sparse in their concentration of really stellar stuff, or lopsided, and there're more contentious songs that start showing up, even a stinker or two. It's not horrid or anything, but the standards they set themselves up for coming out of the 2000s was astronomical. It's hard to overstate just how untouchable they were at their critical height. I've been disappointed by every album they've put out in a decade, even though they're still perfectly good, just by sheer virtue of how high the standard was made on BHaR. Really, that's the real recommendation. Just listen to Black Holes and Revelations front to back, and check out some live concert footage. You'll get a sense for the Muse craze pretty quickly.

Muse was my jam back in 2010-2012 and was my gateway band into prog music. I knew this suite was good, but I forgot exactly how great it actually was - thanks for reacting to it! I'm glad you have noticed what a gem this band is. My very opinionated rundown on Muse's discography is that their golden age are from Origin of Symmetry (2001) to The Resistance (2009). Their debut album Showbiz (1999) is also really good, but a little rougher around the edges, while the albums The 2nd Law (2012) through Simulation Theory (2018) feel a bit less inspired/more generic than their previous albums - although they are still decent. As for recommendations, my best advice would be to begin with the album Origin of Symmetry. I believe it is Muse at their very best - so many great songs it's almost impossible to pick a favourite. If you want recommendations specifically for reaction videos I'd go for one of these: 'Bliss', 'Plug in Baby', 'Stockholm Syndrome', 'Butterflies and Hurricanes', 'Map of the Problematique', 'Knights of Cydonia', 'MK Ultra'.

React to City of Delusion next! It never ever gets reacted to and contains what is probably my favorite chorus ever!

For critical listening, I recommend Space Dementia, City of Delusion, New Born, Ruled by Secrecy, and (a weird deep cut which is the song the composer is most proud of): Con-science.

You mention not hearing much from the band themselves. Yeah, I think the drums and bass are on there some, but not a lot. However, Matt Bellamy (the singer, guitar player, and songwriter) is an excellent pianist. I believe he’s the one playing on this just as he is on all other Muse tracks with piano (and organ, keyboard, etc.) parts.

Muse rocks, and I'm fond of all their eras honestly. This is one of their masterpieces for sure. And since you mentioned Radiohead, at the beginning of their career they were even more influenced by them. I'd say if you were to oversimplify the sound of Muse, Radiohead meets Queen is quite an accurate summary. But they are more than their influences, that's for sure. I think this quite unique stuff these days. Not everyone is able to combine some classic music and alternative rock. . Also I can add that I was in their concert in my country, they are incredible, I gained so much positive energy from them

One of my favorite pieces of music by Muse.

Others may not see it quite this way but Muse did the 3 movement thing again, though as one 10 minute track, called The Globalist. You should check out the Glastonbury Festival 2016 performance of it some time. That track has the advantage for live performances of really being just the band instruments (with some minimal backing string arrangements on the recorded version). I don't think they ever played all of Exogenesis live but you can find live performance of parts 1 & 3. Part 3 also has a very beautiful video for it by a creator who also has done another beautiful one for a track called Aftermath.

For me my favourite composition using orchestra it's the suite of Extreme: "Everything Under The Sun: Rise 'N Shine / Am I Ever Gonna Change / Who Cares?" from their album III sides to every story of 1992 (i know, it's old) and even i can put the name in the poll of patreon they will never be voted enough to be reviewed. 21, 38 minutes of pure gold

My only "problem" with this is the rather "traditional classical" use of piano and orchestra. "Problem" within quotaions because there's nothing wrong with it of course. I do like this but am more excited (within the theme) when the orchestra gets used in a way it never gets used within "classic classical music". That enthralles me a lot!

muse did not get enough apriciation for the symphonies and their songs as they should ,lot s of songs are very today s vieuw in a political way and people do not realise that .

I got into Muse in the early 00s when they were a pretty new band. I remember really enjoying their first 3 (I think) albums. For whatever reason I lost track of them after that. I've definitely heard some of their later stuff in bits-and-pieces on KZfaq and elsewhere, just never got around to hearing the full albums. Anyway, from this it definitely seems as if they've pushed the prog element of their sound much further on later releases, which might account for some of the controversy. Their earlier stuff was much more compact and alternative rock, "song-oriented" by comparison. There are bits of ambition, but nothing that I can recall on this level. As for this track, I like it in general, but I also can't shake the feeling that it sounds like a rock band imitating some of their favorite things from film soundtracks and older classical (the intro to part 3 sounds familiar to me too, though I'm hearing something different than Moonlight Sonata) and whatnot. Maybe it's a "reach exceeding their grasp" problem. I don't think it's bad by any means, but compared to a band like Dream Theater it doesn't feel as original or technically nuanced (and I don't just mean the instrumental virtuosity, but compositional technique).

I enjoyed Part 1 and Part 3. But for some reason Part 2 just really wasn't clicking with me.

I've been on a reaction videos kick lately, and this is the first one I've found too annoying to finish. Brief interjections here and there are fine. They're welcome, even. But do you really have to go on extended monologues in the middle of the track? Just before 7:00, for example, the song crosses over into the next section, but you're so busy blabbing on that you completely miss it and talk over it! Listen, real talk: I really appreciate reactions from composers and producers, because you guys usually have a lot of indepth insight into what we're hearing and you can go into great detail about what makes a piece of music great. I love that stuff. That's why I'm here. But please, please try to keep it brief during the first listen, and save the long explanations for after? That way, you get the full experience of listening to and enjoying the track (as do we), and we get to absorb your reaction to it (that's why this type of video is so popular, after all) and then we can go over specific parts in much greater depth once it's over. I hope you take this as a bit of constructive criticism, and not just plain criticism for the sake of it. Thanks
