Music production in a nutshell to be honest. Even most of the best audio engineers have no idea what the fuck half of a synth's functions do, they just screw with it until they get something that sounds good. Or, in this case, until its DEEP FRIED

that's kinda reverse engineering what mick did. he more so used different means to create sounds from sine waves, while here he's got some sounds and making them sound as close as possible to mick's using different techniques. and i gotta admit it may not sound like a staple mick gordon doom track, but it sounds pretty damn good and close enough to what he would do without having an entire chain of pedals and effects to make the sounds.
@VendettaSoundtracks
@VendettaSoundtracks 3 жыл бұрын
@@crisscrossam Mainly square waves, in Mick's case. It's how he gets all of these rough, sharp and aggressive sounds out of his synth - I can't even begin to imagine how much sidechaining he had to do for some of the more harsh stuff.

I think this is absolutely amazing! All I'd add is - More processed drum sounds, lower the cymbals, micromanage kick/snare those transients, also automate kick velocity to add more groove. - Blurring the line even further between the "non-metal electronic" and "metal instrumental" parts, which you get to more towards the end. - Processing guitars more, layer them with some interesting effects, like the sound you get when you vocode guitar DIs to a 17 year old lawn mower exhaust, export that onto magnetic tape, feed it to your dog in a capsule and then re-record that (*) and throw on some izotope ozone's stereo imager.

It’s an entire damn meal for twelve and you’re eating it all yourself... No you can’t have any! I’ll explode first damnit! (Ok honestly when I started writing this I just suddenly pictured the man in a apron and giving you the mom treatment. The “Put some meat on them bones” good old treatment. You kinda just want to eat it all and not share it with your siblings because it’s SO damn delicious, and you’re so full but you just have to eat it all because it’s your mom’s cooking you know. He knows we’re starving and he feeds us ;-;)

I think there's one element missing; when Mick has the driving metal riff bits, there's usually a dubsteppy electronic drum kick on 1 and snare on 3 under the Metal Drums doing their busy thing. You can really hear this really clearly in BFG division for example where the metal kicks are near constant, but the groove is the Edrum ONE....THREE... etc. Otherwise, totally friggin nailed it!

The one difference I notice the most with Mick Gordon's guitars in relation to this video is that Mick's have quicker attack/release, the notes don't linger as much as they do here. That creates the "groovyness" of the Doom OST sound.
