The first bar reminded me of the music from Children of Dune. I suppose the short motif is very common. Of course it then went in a different direction. Great stuff, cannot wait to get back home to try this out. 😃

The final result sounded excellent. I couldn't help notice that you didn't use any rests. I like add "silence" to create an impact. Looking forward to your next video. Thanks!

Thank you for this video. The only thing that might be confusing is the difference between, Motif, Phrase and Melody. For me the Motif was the first 3 notes you had, which you then varied. This made up a Phrase, which following a similar principle with the motif is varied in subsequent Phrases. These Phrases combined make up the melody line. Let me know if I have this wrong, as I have seen Motif, Phrase and Melody used almost interchangeably.
@composingacademy8270
@composingacademy8270 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, thanks so much for watching. Yes I would say the first 3 notes are the motif. Then the first 4 bars would be the phrase, resulting in the total 16 bars being the overall Melody. Apologies if that wasn't so clear!

Your channel is absolutely amazing, this is exactly the kind of helpful, useful stuff I need as a beginner. Your presentation style is really engaging, and the content has given me many moments where the lightbulb goes on and I get it - that's exciting and gets me motivated to go try out what I've learned. Can't wait to g through the rest of your videos, and I'm looking forward to more. Thanks so much - subscribed!

Your channel was recommended to me today and I've found it very useful so far so thank you. For this video the only thing that surprised me a bit which I thought might have been useful to talk about is your choice of cadence. Your 16 bar melody ends on a tension note which suggests the melody wants to continue on somewhere, I would perhaps have said a quick word on that or changed it to a resolution to the root just for the sake on completeness. Other than that, very straightforward and easy to follow

what gets me is that it seems like its usually the harmony, or the chord progression that really makes the melody.... I have tried taking popular melodies and putting new or different chord progressions under them, just to hear how it works or more likely, doesn't work....dont quite have the skill to do this however...

I came here from the total beginner how to write music video and I see in your melody that in this video you very often use notes that can not be combined in some sort of simple chord. So whatever your harmony chord is, a few notes are not on the chord. At the moment I feel like entering very unsave territory when leaving the chord notes when it comes to melody. Is there any advice or thing to know when jumping off the recent chord for one or two nodes might be usefull?

...sounds good, but isn't one of the first rules of writing a good melody, is that it should have one single climatic note? If the climatic note is repeated, it's not the climatic note.
