workflow tip! if you make the chain with the "wet" and "dry" compressor, you shouldn't duplicate and delete the wet track but just right click below the wat track and create a new track! Saves you like 2 seconds of your precious precious time haha. Great Great Great tutorial tho! love Catsandbeats!

FET meaning FeT.. FET means Field-Effect transistor, a semiconductor, when voltage applied opens a gate, low noise/signal distortion, high gain and are fast

This was really great - always a bit trouble with chosing the right compression/limiting on drums - so this was very educational! Thanks for sharing !

So its recommended to send the entire drums including the Kick into Drum Bus??At what point during the production your doing that? and what about your kick and Bass Dynamics?or rest of the mix for that matter?

This is part of a 6 hour tutorial where the rest of the mixing is also discussed ;)

I simply don't understand compressors. All I hear is that it goes louder or more quiet when he turns the the knobs but that's something I can do with a limiter or just the track volume. I simply hear no other difference. The other day a friend tried to explain to me what a compressor did and he was babbling like half an hour and turning knobs but I couldn't hear any difference between the settings either.

Just don`t understand why he not just setup compressors on drums group. Does he have to make a bus? The group will be a bus..Or?

You can, i think he's doing it this way to mimic how it works on a hardware mixer.

I did it this way because I was also feeding the drum reverb return track back in. Bit advanced but it gives a very nice and tight track :D

At various points you described a sound as "terrible" or OTT. I think if you are tutoring on the use of compressors you need to explain why a particular sound is terrible or why a preset works when another one doesn't.

Thanks for that. Here is a little explanation: slow attack fast release for drums: why? You can make the transient come out more. Each compressor type and manufacturer has slightly different timing and also 'character' settings too. In the form of knees, rates, sidechaining or added harmonic distortion. Why a sound is good or bad solely depends on the listener and to my ears slow attack and fast release does the job. Hope that helps :)
