I tried powering class D amp with 12V from molex, but it has very high noise on speaker, especially when I opened a video game, the noise getting louder. it's enermax 650W gold PSU and the system only consume around 200W. Could the noise produced by the power supply or the components on the PC or noise from ground? When I power it with 19V laptop brick it produces very little noise.

Ive had a setup like this for quite some time. A car stereo deck running four 6.5 inch coax speakers and a 400.1 kicker mono amp on a 10 inch sub. Bought a new head unit amd now nothing will come on. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the green wire and the power supply will not power on at all.

So does the wattage rating of a power supply not matter? Also an amp hooked up in a car, 12 volts dc, does wattage come into play there?
@TheGamersRace2 жыл бұрын
Of course it absolutely applies. You'll want to make sure your power consumption on your audio amp is below the output of your pc power supply.

Probably a stupid question, but if I put a toggle switch in between that green wire and the ground wire, would it work to turn the power supply on and off from a secondary switch? (opposed to one on the back side of the power supply)

How many 12v yellow wires would you recommend bundling to power a 1200 watt boos chaos c700 amplifier?
@jboblk3 жыл бұрын
There are enough yellow and black wires in the power supply that you can clump them together to about the size of 4 gauge wire. You will need 750w or higher power supply to allow your amp to go at full power.

Do you still need a fuse between the power and the amp? Or does the power supply handle that bit?
@CustomKartsAndMore3 жыл бұрын
yea the power supply handles that.

I don't know much about PSU inner working but don't these old PSU have multiple rails and single rail can only deliver 15-20 amps. don't you have to connect two rails but can you do that? And there's no current limiter on them it will deliver as much power amp tries to pull. Good PSU will deliver about Twice as much power as rated power before blowing up. 350W is continuous power dunno how peak power works on PSU.
@tyron-redninja-3992 жыл бұрын
Connect more yellow (12v) wires and you'll draw more power out the PSU

Does it also increase amperage?

If i wanted to run quite a bit of power theough it would i be able to possibly like double or triple up the positives/ negatves to allow for more power. As an alternative to having bigger wire?

thats actualy a good question. i never tried that before. but im thinking the amp is only going to use as much power as the power supply will supply.

yeah any one of the black and yellow ones. all of the individual connectors should have a black and yellow wire.
@Jackmerius_Tacktheretrix Жыл бұрын
The more yellows the better. A single one will work but is too thin to really carry any serious current. I ran 3 yellows to my car stereo amd the rest to my kicker mono amp. Ive had mine since about 2018 and use it all the time here in the oilfield cranked up loud all day and no issues.

I wanna do this. And buy a spare 650 or 700 watt amp for this...but feel like I'd mess up the power supply. And I'd use the pcie or cpu plug in as those two use a lot of power and can handle it. Especially the pcie
@Jackmerius_Tacktheretrix Жыл бұрын
I did this with a 600 watt power supply with a kicker 400.1 mono amp to one American Bass 10 and an Alpine bluetooth receiver running four 6.5 coaxials and holy hell is it loud! Ive had it running since 2018. I took all of the yellows together and all of the blacks together. One yellow won't supply as much current as multiples will. I ran 2 or 3 yellows to the car stereo and the rest to the amp. People are so blown away at how loud it screams and how low the bass goes.

@@jibranshah384 You will NOT power a 4000W amp with a computer power supply. I have a 1250W power supply and its one of the largest. I doubt you will come across one that will power 4000W, not only that but depends on how much of a load you want to put on it (how loud you actually want your sound to be) which means you will need even more power. I suggest getting a smaller amp, instead of finding a larger power supply.

That's the over current protection in the psu. If you do not have all the yellow and black wires on the psu connected to the amp that would be the problem, if you have all the yellow and black wires connected than the psu isn't powerful enough to run that amp. Hope this helped
