Ines Maroua That is a myth. Safiye was most likely from the village Rez in Albania. Check any source. Even in the movie it says that. She was from the Dukagjin Mountains. Her ethnicity was confused with Nurbanu who as uou said was from venice

y'know, what I see is that Safiye Sultan was actually a good Sultana. she was a broadminded Sultan and had a vast knowledge of the world. her many views about Kosem were true. she may be portrayed as a vile and treacherous character in this series, but she had foreseen everything. how power can corrupt a person. how power and politics could separate you from your loved ones. Kosem as Valide Sultan was much worse than Safiye Sultan and had little patience and understanding of those who get in her way. God punished her by giving her an intolerable, bloodthirsty and tyrannical son Murad as a ruler.

Murad had every right to be tyrannical. Whole lot of ass holes were surrounded him and the empire. To see his front ,he needed to clear them all first. That takes to spill blood those days. Even now you would kill the bad people yourself if you were giving the chance.

Here are some facts to clear some things up. Safiye Sultan was banished to the Old Palace by her grandson, Ahmed after her son, Mehmed III, died. This happened because she practically co-ruled with her son, Mehmed III, as someone with so much power, a lot of conflicts would have come up, so it was better that way. Safiye was not more powerful than Kosem. Safiye and Kosem, their reign had ended because they had lost their source of power, their husbands and their son. So no, once Safiye lost her son, she had zero power. People need to understand that the reason all the members of the sultanate came into power and remained in power, was because of a man. It was either their sons or husband. No one was an exception. Hurrem Sultan, her source of power was her husband, Suleiman I and after Mustafa's death, her sons added to her power, if she had lived and had become Valide, she would have been more powerful. Nurbanu Sultan, her source of power was, Selim II, her husband, and her son Murad III, they both kept her in power. Kosem Sultan, her source was, Ahmed I and her sons after his death. Once her sons died, she stayed in power because her grandson's mother, Turhan Sultan, was seen as too young to be given such a huge role and she was more powerful than Turhan Sultan, due to her years staying in power. However, Turhan Sultan was the mother of the current sultan, so Kosem Sultan was eventually killed. Notice one thing. When each of these women was in a position of power, their predecessor was dead. Not saying that they killed them, just pointing it out.
