I have never in 25 years had an issue with a cop I open carry a pistol everyday in Michigan I have never had an issue while doing it and as far as the whole fidgity thing and reaching around iv been pulled over multiple times I reach over to my glovebox grab my papers go in my back pocket grab my Id never once have I even been questioned about it alot of them appreciate being ready to make it quicker on them so you BOTH can go about the day

Everything not to do during a traffic stop. Don't reach for anything. Keep your hands on 3 and 9 o clock. Don't fiddle with objects and don't try to hand an officer anything he hasn't asked you for. Don't tell him you have cop friends. Never reach for anything before the officer approaches your vehicle.

As a responsible CCW holder it's our responsibility to IMMEDIATELY notify the officer that we're armed, it's location, and if it's in battery. If the situation escalates before you can tell them and it's found later on, the officer could potentially have a reason to be suspicious of you.

Hey I watched this video and your update regarding the negative comments. I am a CPL carrier in Michigan as well! I have yet to be pulled over. But I do want to say that the state trooper who taught my class was very adamit about having more legally armed citizens. Because there are times when officers will hope to have a CPL holders assistance in the case that they are alone in a highly escalated situation where backup may not be available in time. A reference would be the state trooper in Michigan who was almost dragged off and killed by a motorcyclist and his cousin. Until a bystandered came to render aid saving the officers life. He thought of us as an "undercover" extension of public safety. All that said, I am also a firefighter and know many officers through the job who are more than happy to see more and more licensed CPL holders. As it increases safety for other civilians and again, themselves if they need help in a rare but serious conflict where backup may not be readily available. I will agree that cops in Michigan like a CPL holding citizen. That being said there are a few of us that need to work on our professionalism and our cooperation with law enforcement officers. You did a great job and I like to see the good encounters between CPL citizens and officers. The more officers there are and CPL holders, the worse it gets for criminals.

First time on the channel, loved the video and respect how you handled the situation. My brothers a sergeant in the highway patrol and man I've been on more rode alongs than I can rmemebr and IF you are cool with the officer they are generally greatful and cool back. That simple. And good move on the CCW and being clear and open with him. They're good people , working for next to no pay and risking heir lives because they want to serve and protect. U can make a lot more money doing anything else that's not life threatning but they don't because they are generally good people , a lot that are ex-military taking a skill to a civilian job. Is it normal that the officer let him keep the gun after alerting him that he has a firearm and a ccw license? Everytime that I've ever told an officer I have my firearm and license they immediately take my gun, unload it and check the serial over the radio. I've never remotely thought to decline them doing that. Honestly out of fear and wanting the encounter to be over as soon as possible.

I have been a concealed carry holder since 1996. In that time I have been stopped twice for speeding. Both times the officer"s (both motorcycle) first words were "good afternoon, sir. Do you have your weapon on you?" I am a retired Law Enforcement dispatcher and I knew he had run my plates thru dispatch and they told him of my CCW status. I replied I was, we talked guns for a couple of moments, I got my tickets (no professional courtesy), and we were on our way. I hated getting the tickets but, I believe, we all made the experience better by being courteous to each other and not doing anything stupid!

A yellow light police stop is a fishing expedition. Nobody is required to stop if the light changes when they are inside the intersection - as you did, since he said it was yellow when you were UNDER it. Positive outcome (no ticket) from this one doesn't make the traffic cop cool. It makes you somebody with nothing to hide - but you still got stopped to see what he could find wrong with you. You were not wrong, the cop was using a gimmick violate the Bill of Rights. The U.S. Constitution - check it out sometime.(This comment edited today to try to provide clarity)
