You've really struck a chord with me. I've got this one environment piece that I've been putting off for-ever. I think it's because I just haven't spent enough time planning or practicing the basics before going into the whole composition. I'm also incredibly impatient so I've convinced myself I prefer doing quicker work, but honestly I don't 100% that either. I just gotta make a plan and get through the grind.

Ive been struggling with a piece that I thought should've been simple for a month now. I've reached a point where I think I should just get it done and out there so I can move on. It's something I have to tell myself with every piece, that I can always revisit it when I'm a bit wiser and have the skill and vision to improve on it.

"We all have 10,000 bad drawings in us. The sooner we get them out the better." - Walt Stanchfield Remember y'all, fretting over whether the 536th drawing is the best it could ever be is missing the point. Gradual improvement is the key!

For a video of this length, it's unbelievable how immensely rich and insightful what it offers. The wisdom and experience being explored here perfectly encapsulate my journey in art so far and likely even much later down the road. Whenever i attempt a long project, the first and most resilient foe has always been self-doubt, causing me to lose track of my goals. This video's set so many ground works that i can safely relate and refer to in such cases and i'm definitely feeling more confident in trying to push through the mindblock. Thank you for this!

Hi Tyler - Really awesome video. It helps me a lot, and there's a lot of stuff you talk about, that I'll bare in mind for my own longer projects. Thanks! have a great day!

I've been working on this painting since like 2020 and the latest version was "good" not "great" like you were saying. Needless to say I've been feeling really discouraged because I've poured a lot of time and effort into it only for it to fall flat. After watching this, I think coming back to it in the future will be the right call.

Thanks for sharing man! Backgrounds overall is what I need to improve on a lot to push my tiddy art to another level. since I do feel like backgrounds are miles behind compared to what I'm able to do regarding to characters. You, Marc Brunet and Dave Greco are pretty much the trio that I'm trying to "steal" from 😄

Thank you for sharing your progress! Only one thing does bother me about this version, that somehow the perspective feels skewed. the two towers on the main structure feelt oo parallel, whilst the ones left and right on these arms are not really opposite. Also I feel like we look upwars towards the bridge to the castle, whilst the circular building on the right is looked up from too far above. This makes it seem like there are various perspectives going on parallel. I feel your process with working only when feeling it. I've spent ages on some painting, only to revert to the previous version because my "improvments" actually made it worse.

So.. I have a question: How do you differ to other creators like Trent who would say this illustrative side isnt really concept work .. it is concept art but not in the same sense as well creating the idea if that makes sense.. it def feels more illustration work? (Mostly meaning for the background art you did and giant backgrounds) Thank you for the video!!@ :)

This is so good! I have a concept I wanted to develop for such a long time and I'm having a hard time fleshing it out, mostly because of perfectionism and impatience.... I'm still a student so I often find myself with less time and with less energy to work with personal art. How do you find the time to do personal art aside from your work? I always fall on to the "I'm really tired and I can't be creative right now" thinking everytime I finish school work : (
@TylerEdlin84
@TylerEdlin84 Жыл бұрын
Personal work takes for lever because of this. I can’t paint when I’m tired and I’m often too busy. So really it’s just out in an hour here and there when I can

What would you say is a fair amount of reference? When I'm trying to design something as big as this I get so overwhelmed by the amount of reference I COULD gather, because I keep thinking there might be some image I still have to find that might help me bring my design to the next level. Unfortunately the only effect it has is that I have too many things to look at.
@TylerEdlin84
@TylerEdlin84 Жыл бұрын
Yeah you def need to scale down reference and cut out the unnecessary. Get and keep only what you need. Your creativity will need to fill in the gaps

what you think the most important thing for an artist, skills or imagination? I have the imagination but I can't get myself to practice or sketch for a long time because of health issues (I have chronic back pain and ADHD) but if the imagination is the key then I'll force myself to do it. what ignite this artistic feeling in me was using Ai art no matter how I use it, it needed many retouchs to make satisfying, plus I'm nit comfortable with using artists names in my prompts.
@TylerEdlin84

Really need both skill and imagination. It’s really hard to thrive with just one. For a creator they go together

@@TylerEdlin84 yeah I guess you're right, I believe wasn't clear with my comment, what I meant was do you think which one can be to learned and evolve with practice skills or imagination?

I haven’t watched one personally, but I’m assuming it’s either on the individual bases of the recording by the artist, or they use some kind of compression when they upload
