I've "always" known about pre-delay and early reflection (but nicely organized tutorial for anyone unfamiliar btw) but I'm still confused about late reflections. It haunts me every time I see it in some processors like Valhalla. The only way I've come to see it (which I'm fairly sure I got wrong thus asking you in case you know: is if you've just stepped inside a large room, say a gym, the early reflections would be the door and walls right behind you and the late reflections would be the far end walls? But then I'm confused between those far walls, if they're distinct from what I'd call the reverb tail (like your decaying downwards triangle in your image).

Very useful information here. Thanks for sharing. BTW when you played that song with the calculated reverb, it could be just me but, I couldn't really hear too much reverb at all. I would like to hear the mix of just the drums and vocals so it stood out more to me.

Thanks for the feedback, you are right. The decay time on the unit I was using was pretty mild. If I use this method in the future I will definitely make sure to give the versions more contrast.

What is the math equation for the decay time based on? Great video by the way; liked the graphs especially.

So something I should have mentioned about the equation is that it's a tool to set you into the right direction when searching for your decay time. You should always use your ears to dial in the right amount of decay. The equation helps sync the tempo of the song to the our normal time scale. 60000 just represents the number of milliseconds (what decay time is measured in) per minute. Hopefully this clarified. Diffusion is pretty cool, in reality it would be using those panels of hard wood that are inconsistently placed to direct sound in different directions. But i've also seen it as settings on processors. Depending on the processor the control would probably effect how fast the reverb tail becomes inaudible. Very useful for sculpting reverb times!
