Sooner or later, it all goes awry. They can pull up Gulf Coast jetty-slabs, surround the lake and in another year or five, it's gonna erode and all property downstream is flooded. The developers all knew then as they were filling for State permits, and the State said, "Gimme our share of your sales and that's fine..." Property owners who think developers and the State will put THEIR interests over their own bank accounts - ?!! ha ha ha

I think that dam belongs to the HOA. At least the HOA seems to be setting the rules as to who can use the pond and what they can to with it.

They need to draw down the water level, then call in a vibratory pile driver to drive in a corrugated steel dam wall, then repair the embankment before filling the lake back up. Anything short of that, and this thing will fail catastrophically. And they better be quick about it, too. Like, start piledriving today and keep going through the night kinda quick. Good luck, homeowners. But if it was me, I'd be evacuating my valuables and staying in a hotel for a while... 👀

The water isn't no were near the top of the line. It is a land slip due to the soil inside and around the dam itself. Nothing to do with the little amounts of water behind it.

You needed a Soils Scientist to look at that. He might have said that they used a clay called a mollisol that expands and shrinks with every wet and dry spell. When they are on a slope like that, they can do that trick.

Instead of spending the time they have pointing fingers, shouldn't they be doing something to make sure the people and homes are safe??!! I didn't see any type of barricades, oversized sand bags or anything else that could help stop/redirect the water if the levee does go.

There's only one solution, here. Drain down the lake, bring in a vibratory pile driver to drive in a corrugated steel dam wall, repair the embankment and refill the lake. Honestly, if you want it done right, call in a civil engineering contractor from the Netherlands. That would be your best bet, here. About half of our country owes its very existence to the fact we're good at this stuff.

There is a lot of ignorance involved here. An earthen dam that was designed and constructed properly would not have this issue. It was likely a combination of failures. The fix will require allowing all the water to be drained, and a new dam must be constructed. Now they know it must a keyway at least 6 feet deeper than the lowest part of the reservoir made out of material that will be compacted in lifts to prevent seepage. On the water side, the material must also be a type that seals that gets tracked in benched lifts and then carved with dozer to proper slope grade. Existing soil can only be utilized on the outside of the dam for topsoil and get wasted beyond the dam to facilitate less grade. Managing the freeboard and offering a proper drain and overflow is essential. This is 100% on the developer and if already legally released from their liability, then the collective property owners get to own it. The blame being placed on government is heard but the water conservation and soil conservation agencies are about protecting the water sources downstream that the larger population uses. I seriously doubt that their published guidelines are defective and that when the mud clears, what will be obvious is that these guidelines were not followed.

Erosion can happen insanely quick but this is not erosion this is a landslide basically after tremendous amounts of rainfall the topsoil got saturated and then slid off the top of what most likely is clay underneath
