There's was a town meeting at John Hopkins university to increase security and it had a bunch of crying protesters saying to shut it down.

problem is its gotten impossible to know for sure who is and who isnt safe oftentimes predatorial traffikers disguise themselves as private security details just as much as corrupt police officers and the point is anywhere that supplies "warm bodies" for traffikers is gonna be targeted and thats why the lady at the 2 twenty three time area says "Im not sure police are the best response to these issues" thats what she means - democracy and abuse of freedoms has got us to where we are now

To be honest the police in Cal just cash their checks and actually don’t help almost nothing to keeping the area safe. They don’t do rounds and if you call them they will arrive 20 mins late when they can arrive in 2 min. Obviously police needs money but specifically talking about UC Berkeley PD needs to actually do their job much better. The money they receive is not proportional to their actual job imo.

A police force is needed to maintain order in society. However, people do not need to be subject to police brutality. Defending mean hiring other professionals to deal with non-criminal matters that the police were not trained to deal with

Actually the students there are oblivious to their surroundings.. always have their ear-buds or headphones on and staring at their screens never looking around, hell they just walk into crosswalks without looking even when the lights are green packs of them just walk anyways.. the students are ridiculously unaware of anything around them. The police uc police department does a lot more than people think, just because when the random encounters happen and the police aren't there doesn't mean they aren't doing their jobs.. unfortunately Berkeley campus is an open campus and it leaves to dozens of random events.

You're absolutely right I just left Berkeley area right off University Avenue I went to the goodwill and to the Ace Hardware and people were just not paying attention it was so annoying they just walked into the street and they checked like halfway across the street for cars coming instead of at the sidewalk

@@malcriadamedina5358 Several cities have been defunded. Go get arrested in SF (if you can), and try to do jail time. It’s no longer the Holiday Inn like how it was prior to the pandemic. Lots of the free time, yoga, acupuncture and more has been taken away due to the lack of funding. It’s no joke. Going to jail is a bit barbaric.

USC is where downtown LA meets the hood. After 2 students got killed some years back sitting in a BWW at night, they started not allowing non-students on campus after 8pm. They can do that b/c their campus is more compact & private. They also don't let the public enter their libraries at any time like they used to. A lot of it is just attitude. UC students/parents have the attitude they're getting a world class education for cheap so they can't rock the boat. USC students/parents pay $60k a year & make demands.

It is a crying shame, top tier university like UC Berkeley is in the middle of a dangerous area!! Just take a walk around the university and you see crazies running around, people with needle marks on their arms and legs, people sleeping in the street, and of course, the smell of marijuana. With this situation, I would expect crime to be on the rise. The city and the school should address the reason and work on a solution. Adding more security is just a band aid.

Never had any issues when I was at Cal in the mid to late 2000s. Be vigilant. Walk in well lit areas. Walk with purpose. No headphones on.
