Before throwing conditioner on my new Nicks DomePro’s in W&C English Tan Bridle leather, I wanted to see what my 3 conditioners do to the leather.

I find the Venetian shoe cream tastes best but it sucks to have to go all the way to Venus to get it.

I bought some Truman Leather Protector that I have put on several of my pairs of boots, and it does not darken the leathers. I've put it on combination-tan and veg-tan. I'm not sure who makes it, but Truman recommends and it is branded as Truman.

Really different products, for different applications. I have used all three on my Veg tanned. Annual oil, regular conditioner.

Yeah I only use the Obenaufs on very dark work leathers or black work leather, it reminds me of mink oil. Although it does condition the boots really good. I use the Venetian shoe cream on CXL, double shot leathers and really all my more premium, dressier leathers. It does however provide a sheen after brushing out which leaves a slightly different appearance from the original color, that I find very appealing to the eye. Lastly, Bick 4 is my choice for a conditioner that changes the appearance of the original color the least. Venetian is my most used product by far for my boot collection.

Yes I bought Bick4 earlier this year, but have only used it a little. I should compare it to VSC on the Veg Tans. Like you, I use VSC more than anything. It’s my go to.

Interesting results. I wonder if you should use more VSC, like pour into the cap and dip your finger in it?

A little goes a long way in my experience. And again, I’m trying to not darken the boots. I ended up doing VSC on them and it gave them a little shine without darkening the boot.

I think the boots look different, because the leather is pulled while lasting it. Pulling the leather spreads those oils in the leather, causing it to look different.

Excellent test. Like Jamessmith below, I've heard Bick 4 changes leather color the least of best known conditioners and thought it'd be good to compare against the VSC as I was watching your nice video. This really interests me because I don't want to change the color of my shrunken bison boots when it comes time to condition them.

Bick 4 doesn't change the color much if at all, but I also don't feel as though it conditions well either. It reminds me very much of Lexol in terms of end result, a slight step up from conditioning with water. I'm fully aware that this flies in the face of most KZfaqr and reddit boot folks opinions, but there are better choices. Smiths is my go to with the exception of a few specialty leather types, in those cases I go Saphir. I don't like changing the color much either, but I try to balance minimizing that and getting the boot properly hydrated.

did VSC change their bottle? the consistency seems much watered down and bottle is different. Is your VSC authentic?

They sell it in various bottle sizes and shapes my guy. Yes this is authentic. Cheers.

The VSC can leave spots on veg tan since it's a liquid. I prefer the Smith's.

I always put VSC on a cloth, then rub it in. So it doesn’t go too heavy in one spot.

Hi, I was looking to contact Nick’s to ask some details before I order my boots but I couldn’t see any email or phone number in their website. There is an option for text message only. I placed my questions there but always getting replies telling me to look in there website and videos in YT.Looks like copy paste answers.Paying 6 months in advance 700 bucks and no real person to talk too.

@@EDHBlvd I am trying to call nicks but didn’t get any call back. Than I send them a message true their website. Got i very polite answer that phone calls are not available for customers outside US. Doesn’t sound very good.

@@EDHBlvd You are absolutely right. I sent them mails four times during a month and they are answering in an hour. The thing is that mostly they use copy-paste text, advising me to check their website and You Tube videos. That’s it. All real information I need, I am getting from you guys.Very , very helpful.Priceless. I am telling them, that am living outside US and the boots I wish to order will cost me here 50% over the price.I can’t afford any mistake with sizing. Returns from here are very complicated and costly and no try pair available. You want to pay lots of money and a telephone call is not available.I don’t understand.
