I also served as a motorcyclist in the Swiss Army in the early 1980s and rode this motorcycle. It was a lame duck, but it couldn't be killed. On the first day we crashed three A350s because we upshifted instead of braking, and that on icy and snowy roads. The mechanics fixed everything again and we moved on. By the way, the engine is definitely from Ducati, the army had boxes of spare parts in the warehouses directly from the Ducati factory. The picture of the rifle in your video is exactly right, that is the STGW 57. We hated riding off-road with the gun at our side; in the evening the inside of our legs were sore and the gun had to be cleaned for hours. The A350 had a studded tire at the back and a smooth road tire at the front, which was ideal neither off-road nor on the road.

Was motorcycle driver in the Swiss Army. Had my basic training in 1984 and went through a lot with this bike. Worst thing was to drive with the night light on in pitch dark rainy night wearing a gas mask. The A350 was a real Frankenstein bike with parts from various providers. Still drive a motorbike to this day. Was always refering to it as the Swiss answer to the American SDI. STGW 57 was the standard issued side arm.

Rifles were Stg 57 (for Sturmgewehr 57 = assault rifle mod. 1957). These rifles could fire single shots or in automatic mode (very similar to the NATO FALO). Exhaust are a BMW model, hence the silence :-) The Condor A250 had a Condor engine, in fact a true copy of a single BMW, but reversed. Condor was at this time the swiss importer for Ducati products, and they simply bought Ducati engines. It is quite sure that these engines were made by Mototrans, who were very good with singles. It was cheaper for Condor to buy these engines than to make them. They only had to reduce their power. Thank you for this good video :-)

Hi Merlin, thanks for your comments. There are people saying it was from Mototrans and others saying that Ducati had these in stock and were happy to get rid of them. I know MT were good with the single ducati's (some say better than ducati ;-) ) and Condor (or MT) improved the engines. Can you tell me how you know or where you got this knowledge? It is not a big deal - just curious. (NB: I know nothing about the guns - i found that info somewhere on the net ... sorry) Cheers, Rob

Great video, I've had a Condor for 6 years now, just picked up an oil filter at the link you posted here. I'm also looking for new brake pads. Any idea where I can find some? Thanks for such a great resource!

Hi, thanks for your kind words. About the pads: these are standard 200mm pads and were mounted on a host of italian bikes in the 60's and 70s. Google around and I am sure you could find something Alternatively you could have your shoes relined, riveted and ground - that would be my choice, to be honest: cheap and if you're handy you could do it yourself. I still have a few original pads hanging around but I am loath to part with them because a) they are so old, I wouldn;t trust them and b) I still have 2 a350s and they are driven quite a lot and these would be my emergency stock ;-) (PS: try 'Back to Classics' in NL - if they can't help, I am sure they would pointer you to right way...)

Thanks for the tips. I think I will reline the originals but it's a daily rider and so was looking to get a back up pair of shoes to minimize downtime. Thanks again for the quick reply and the vid.

Hi Rob, I am getting no spark. The coil, condenser and battery are good. I don't think I need the generator for the spark? Right? I would like to check the generator, though. What kind of a OHM reading should I get? Any help with the spark problem would be greatly appreciated, Thanks, Rob

Hey Robert, that could be any number of things. Start with the easy things; battery full? plug OK? Cable OK?No electricity-leaks around the cable? Then the more difficult ones: points/condensor working properly? the rotor has no fucked wired? stator still has magnetism? Ohms over the Pickups should be 110ohm or thereabouts. Try this and lemme know if you find anything else. (Coil could be the culprit. I have replaced quite a few over the years....Ducati coils can be used as replacement)

Measuring the coil statically doesn;t mean it's not fucked, by the way....

If you have time, could you tell me what settings you have on the 2 carburettor screws?

Mixture - 1,25 twists OUT from completely screwed IN The stationary screw I am always fiddling around with - once it's warmed the fiddling stops ;-)

I opened the distributor cap on my Condor today and noticed that I have no condenser next to the points. I have not ran it in 2 years and was changing gaskets on and put her back together today. I am getting old and i don't remember taking them out and why would I? Rhetorical question.. Is it located some where else? I need , an oil filter, points and a condenser if you can help. Thanks, Rob

Hello Robert. I have the parts you need. There is ALSO a condensor under the FRONT of the saddle, attached to the frame. This one is important to allow starting with aan empty battery. Where abouts ARE you??

Hi Rob, I am in the USA. I also need an oil filter. I new it had to have a condenser somewhere! Thanks, Robert

Just for your info: I change oil every 1500km (1000miles) (when its warm!!) and clean the oilfilter with diesel. Works fine and that way you can reuse the filter a dozen times. Don't forget these bike didn't even HAVE an oil filter originally. I do have an original oil filter if you want plus the points. Give me a day to dig them up and make a sensible price for you.

PS: there are a few alternative oil-filters that work fine as well.... have to dig that up too!

There are a few here and there although Brexit has made importing/exporting virtually impossible. Best join the “Condor A350” page in Facebook. There are a few brits there and sometimes, in a moment of depression or insanity, they put one up for sale ;-) I run that page - but dont forget to answer the question!
