If Sakurai had his way, Smash Bros Wii u and Ultimate wouldn't have online and would have remained a couch co-op single player game! Which realistically would have been perfectly fine.

To be fair, he probably was playing on a different server with in development characters so that people wouldn’t find out any secrets.

Gosh, the competitive scene is somehow both the best and the worst thing about Super Smash Bros They're the most dedicated to the game which is good for keeping a franchise relevant, but they also believe it's because of them the franchise is a success, when in reality, I bet less than a million of Ultimate sales comes from those wanting to play the game seriously Nintendo wanting to shut down tournaments should say a lot really

Tbh the issue with certain characters falls into a few categories, The first one has already been said by the above commenter is characters who exist almost purely for promotion which is why fire emblem is so heavy hated but this does apply to other franchises as well to a much lesser degree. The second is clone characters that don't play significantly different from their base to form a unique playstyle that warrants them being a meaningful addition to the game, for example luigi, ganondorf, falco, roy and wolf are clone characters that most people would say are good additions due to them having unique playstyles while characters like dr mario, pichu, young/toon link, lucas, lucina, dark pit, daisy, dark samus, richter and chrom are clones that lack any notable difference in playstyle from their base to do anything aside appeal to the players of their base character. The third is characters who have questionable moveset design that makes them feel particularly gimmicky or obnoxious, notable example would be ice climbers, olimar, lucario, sonic, pokémon trainer, little mac, duck hunt, villager, rosalina&luma, mega man, pacman, ryu, cloud in smash 4 specifically, bayonetta, k rool, joker, min min, banjo&kazooie(literally just wonder wing), pyra&mythra, hero, kazuya and steve. All those characters have certain traits about them that are just really questionable due to creating one dimensional gameplay or doing certain things that the other player cannot do anything about and just have to deal with.

Yeah definitely. People always find something to complain about and of course it’s true the game has some problems and issues but ofc it does. It can’t be 100% perfect but Sakurai still has done so much good for this game it’s incredible

Not to mention we wouldn’t have access to mods like UCF and frozen stadium, and slippi would probably still be better netcode wise. And there’s a very good chance they either fix a lot of the bugs or make more of them and that would completely fuck up a lot of the interactions of the game

And that's why Melee HD won't ever happen. Let's be real for a moment, Melee, while still a classic, it gets most of it's spotlight from tourneys. If competitors won't switch to an HD version then why should Nintendo bother? The reason there's only one Smash or Mario Kart per console is because having 2 would be a competition for sales between two entries of the same franchise (no MK9 because it would kill MK8DX).

They would 100% use PAL Melee for a Melee HD, which pro players would NEVER switch to. The second you touch Fox, you lose like half of Melee's playerbase. Also Melee HD would never sell when it's on the same console as a more robust Smash Bros. Melee doesn't have Mega Man or Sonic or Simon Belmont or Ridley or Wario or Diddy Kong or K. Rool or Dedede or Meta Knight or etc.

Second of all, one year ago people would've said that a Super Mario RPG remake and a Paper Mario TTYD remake were never going to happen yet here we are. My point isn't that Melee HD will definitely happen, but if Nintendo continues on their streak of remaking old games with a cult following, then they'd be stupid not to revisit Melee, since it is THE old Nintendo game that has still has a huge following.

@@drakejoshofficialyoutubech5569 I know you didn't specify Melee HD on Switch, but regardless of which console Melee HD ends up being released it will be swallowed as soon as a new Smash games gets released (and it will, I highly doubt Melee HD, by itself, can carry on during a whole console's lifecycle, since Smash is a console seller but Melee is a Gamecube title, it can sell but not a lot). Lastly, Melee has a following, but it's mostly composed out of competitive players which statitiscally don't matter at a large scale (it's like 1 million competitors vs 30 million casuals), so if the competitive scene is not that big and even then you can't assure they will switch over to the new OFFICIAL version then why bother? I don't think they will port something that might barely sell.

I think that fits with sonic and Ganondorf Sure it makes sense for Ganondorf to be a clone in melee, but in later games couldn’t they just make an entirely new moveset for him? As for sonic I heard he was a late edition to SSBB which makes a little sense as to why his moveset isn’t that good but why didn’t he get reworked into something actually unique?

It's 100% a Nintendo Online thing. Name me one good Switch game that uses Nintendo's own servers that has good online. Splatoon doesn't. Mario Kart doesn't. Mario Maker doesn't. The online for retro titles sure as hell doesn't! The only game with good online is Pokemon Unite because that shit uses 3rd party servers.

In terms of trailers, I think Sora was the most grandiose out of the pack next to Sephiroth especially if you know about the history that KH was made from the inspiration and success of Mario 64. I don't know about power ups but if you're referring to forms, then I think it makes more sense to make a meter to change forms but then people complain that it's all pay to win still. Idk how throws are supposed to be inspired the only iconic ones I can think off the top of my head are the "so long gay bowser," cargo throw, and tetsuzanko. At least his back throw is based on a qte of an infamous boss battle. Dash attack is sliding dash, a move most people would recognize because everyone picks sword-build sora and that's the first ability he learns. Keyblade throw? I think you're talking about Strike Raid which no thank you, it's just Pyra side B but you can spam more than one I much rather they replace Sonic Blade with Ars Arcanum. At the very least he came with his original music, a really broken spirit, and a legal stage that's aesthetically pleasing to viewers. I think keeping him basic was a way to get the skill floor low enough to let casuals play him while allowing idj cancels to happen for more serious players to experiment without going overboard like 2 certain characters did. I think they wanted to combine the brawler, swordfighter, gunner archetype into one while still being simple, there's a reason why Mario and Kirby are made the way they are.

​@@darc5925 I think having Strike Raid for a "projectile" multihit jab that doesn't go as far, or do as much knockback or damage as Pryas would have been a fun jab. I massively disagree about this because his jab is literally just forward title expect it it's worse and reuses his Forward-Smash animation for the final strike. It doesn't even feel like a unique move at all. His Down-Special should have been some sort of monada arts power up system because this would have given him some flair. He should have been given a float... He literally floats in the trailer. And yeah repurpose Corrin's Dash attack for his Dash attack and make it a multihit as well. Official Sora is waaaaaay too basic and boring to be worthy of the character.

​​@@greendayblinkfan182 i don't think you understand what a jab is. By definition it's a "short blow" which extends to basically every character. It's a basic attack that the casual audience will understand how the game works. The only exception to this is megaman but that's because in his games that is his basic attack. Everyone's Jab is either an original basic hit or a basic attack rip directly from their game like Bayonetta designed to help you understand what this character does. Giving him an elaborate jab not only goes against his design but also confuses players especially new casual ones. Jab is by no means worse than ftilt if anything it's the other way around. F tilt is a worse jab cuz it loses its anti air use, has much slower start up, and you can't combo into it reliably unlike jab. You shouldn't realistically use all 3 hits of f tilt but only use the 1st hit since it's a kill move. Idk what kinda monada arts thing you're talking about but as far as I have seen in the series, no such thing exists as forms function as a meter something Joker, Sephiroth, and Terry already do. Yeah the floaty thing. Sora doesn't fly or he does but in only one world where he has unlimited access to pixie dust. Every where else he's falling with style hence the floaty jumps. Peach floats but in case you didn't know Peach is among one of the best characters in the game specifically because of float. The only thing keeping her from number 1 or even top 5 is her lack of range and her moves on its own are actually pretty bad so Sora will have to be revamped to have god awful moves just to balance float. You can already do float combos with him using IDJ. Ok dash attack you are just making stuff up at this point. Im pretty sure that move doesn't exist for him so they used the move Sliding Dash as his dash attack a move most fans are familiar with and has the word dash in it. Besides multi hits are unfortunately not good in this game many times people fall out of it. At this point it sounds like you're trying to make a completely different character almost comes off as a donut steel design.
