I started a gratitude journal last year after reading studies on how gratitude alters mental state over time. It is the idea of accepting what you have been given, but going beyond that and finding ways to be thankful for even the mundane things you encounter that don't necessarily elicit joy, but meet a need. Life is unfair and can be brutal. However, if you alter your thinking, even when you are in the shit, you see that it can be fertilizer for growth. Not sure if you have heard of the story about 'finding the pony'. I will post it here because it is quite humorous but enlightening. --- There once was a father with two very different sons. One of his sons was so pessimistic he was painful to be around. Nothing was ever right for him. On a sunny day, he could spot the smallest cloud. The other son was completely opposite. He was an over-the-top optimist. There seemed to be nothing that would dim his spirits. Everything had a silver lining. The glass was always completely full - it might be full of liquid, but if not, it was full of air. On a rainy, gloomy day, he’d be glad that flowers were getting watered. As parents do, the father worried about both sons. He struggled to find a way to let him pessimistic son grow the ability to see some glimmers of hope and light. And he worried that his optimistic son would get ruined in the world. He wanted to have that son get a solid dose of reality. One day, inspiration struck. The father came up with the best solution to help both of his sons at the same time. He was so excited! He filled up one room in his house with the best toys and inventions imaginable. Anything that could make a boy’s heart sing was put in that room. Looking over the amazing gear, the father thrilled to know that finally his one son would enjoy himself. He might even laugh. In another room, he ordered a huge pile of horse manure be dumped. The smell was awful, but this too grimly pleased the father. He loved his optimistic son but he was sure this manure would help get his son’s feet back on the ground. He hurried to get his boys. Excitedly, he brought his boys to the doors and said, “Sons, you know I love you and want the best for you. Behind each of these doors is a lesson. It’s a gift that will serve you in the years to come. You must stay in the room I assign to you for an hour and a half. After that, I’ll come in and check on you.” At the allotted time, he excitedly opened the door to the room his first son was in. He couldn’t wait to see the joy in his son’s eyes. Rushing in, he almost stumbled over his son who was slumped dejectedly on the floor. Toys and gadgets were strewn around the in disarray. “Son, what happened? Didn’t you like the things in here?” he asked in alarm. The son slowly looked up and said, “Dad, they make this stuff so cheaply now. It looks good but it just falls apart at the slightest touch. And the games are boring. Nothing in here was good.” His son hadn’t changed a bit. Not even a little. In a bit of a stunned daze, the father walked across the hall to the room of his other son. Opening the door, he couldn’t believe his eyes. Manure was flying all over the place! And his son was no where to be seen! “Son, son, are you ok? Son, where are you?” A head popped up from the pile. His son was covered in manure and grinning ear-to-ear. “Hi Dad!” “Son, what are you doing?” “Dad, look at all this manure! There’s got to be a pony in here somewhere!” ---- It is all a matter of perspective. Take care Chase. You are learning important lessons. Thank you for sharing them with us.

I would add to this lil' gem you gave us that if you're lucky enough to even find an optimistic role model....latch onto them. Be their friend genuinely, and grow from them. I'v seen people suffer MASSIVE lose and struggle, and still manage to smile and make others smile. THOSE are people worth picking their brains. When I start to mirror them, badly or decently, I find that others are happier. Not just myself. And us ENTPs get off a little on making others happy. Don't know why, don't care why. It's one of our few redeeming traits, and I'm keeping it.

@@Niveous23 Unfortunately, at least in my experience, those friendships end up being one-sided a lot of the time. I've had to be very careful who I allow into my life because I can be taken advantage of quite easily due to this mindset that I will be grateful whatever is handed to me. Learning to balance it with boundaries is helpful in keeping the right relationships. I'm glad you recognize it as valuable, and have had your own success with it. As an INFJ, I get off on making others happy too. ;) haha.

I agree with the premise, yes gratefulness is important to escaping bitterness. But not in the way mentioned in the video. It's important to say pleases and thank yous. And not do shitty things to people. But the ENTP way, is to have positivity and support of others flowing from you. Don't over commit or become a doormat. But sometimes it takes very little effort to help others. Sometimes more. But if you finish the day and you feel like you've made an impact and nourished a relationship. This will be deeply satisfying. Here is my list of things I think are useful to extinguish bitterness. 1) Accept the cards dealt. Noone owes you anything. Life might be unfairly dealt, but you gotta play your best cards regardless. 2) Look for silver linings. There are almost always good outcomes in bad events. At the least you will learn something from the event and become better as result. 3) Accept that everyone is flawed. Everyone does bad things sometimes. Noone is pure good or pure bad. 4) Be kind to others, even if they are unkind to you. If people are unkind, ask 'what's going on', all behaviour is communication. PEOPLE WANT YOU TO ABANDON THEM! They assume you will, the minute shit hits the fan. If the person matters to you, stay with them. Let them know you won't abandon them and they're important to you. Have self respect. But don't 'cut toxic people out of your life' cause it's the trendy thing to do atm. Cutting people out will make society worse and your circles smaller. Everyone has toxic sides to them. Good friends help those people grow. 5) Volunteer, donate to charity, do something positive to the world and meaningful. And for no reward. Don't tell people you do it. Help just to help. 6) Look in the mirror. If you don't want to be bitter. Start today. Tell a friend you're starting new. And ask for support. 7) NEVER. STOP. LEARNING. An entp that's not learning is an ENTP who is suffering. I don't think I need to explain to ENTPs how to learn. But KZfaq is an excellent source for learning something for free. 8) Finally and most importantly. Be kind to yourself. Forgive yourself for any mistakes or short comings. The only thing you owe yourself is to keep breathing. Anything else is an added bonus. Throw out expectations. Be happy for being alive and in a developed nations, be grateful for electricity, food on demand, and great people around you - friends you have and friends you could make. That is how you'll beat bitterness. Edited for clarity

The type grid is definitely true, I've used it many times now and it reliably adds up. A guy I assumed was INTP, because he was a bit awkward and quite selfish turned out to be an ISTJ. I had to use the type grid to confirm that and couldn't believe it at first. He shows some stereotypes of INTP, how can he be ISTJ, aren't ISTJ affiliative? Turns out he's just really insecure. He's a stickler for the rules, I tried to bait him into questioning them, but he didn't bite. Rules are rules and must be followed! There's many other things that added up confirming this, but it's not so important. What matters is that the type grid is definitely the most reliable form of correctly typing someone. Just make sure to practice it and check the cognitive functions afterwards.

Hey, Chase. MBTI helped unlock a lot of issues in my life, but there were always incongruencies that didn't make sense. Your videos filled in most of the gaps. In this video where you mention the Type Grid is like mathematics, I'm not sure I'm with you to that point just yet. Maybe I'm taking it too literally. What I will say is that the grid clearly works and works incredibly well. I'm fortunate that my closest friend of 30 years just happens to be an ENTP. We took the test with our mutual close friend of 20+ years and we all tested (online) as INTJ - lol. It was clear to me my buddies could be close at times, but there was no way we all were. Watching your videos, I kept hearing you talk about INTJ's in your life. Several of your specific phrases I have heard from my pal many times, and I realized he had to be ENTP. He could come off as INTJ, because of his Shadow. That's why we clicked so well (Golden Pair) in our weekly RPG sessions. Anyway, we used your Type Grid to correctly re-type our mutual friend as an ENTJ. We've actually been hacking his ego recently to help bring him out of a year's-long funk. As fake as it makes me feel, I look for places in the conversation to bring up how he was a good person in a specific situation and it has really flipped his mood and his morality. You're an amazing guy. More so for graciously pulling that video. I'm not sure I could have done it. My automatic response would have been to argue a case like a jerk, instead of recognizing an opportunity to demonstrate humility and compassion. Really mature of you. Also, type up 5 bullet points (maybe with 2 - 3 sub-points each) to help you keep on track. Like my best bud, you are Caption Distcracto. Cheers man.

hey chase! thanks for the livestream. i was huddled up in there but there were so many people that the convo was going super fast, so i was a little quiet, haha. watching a second time let me to take in what you had to say. it was very brave of you to talk about your experience witn envy--i never knew that it could feel that way to be an entp. you know, i'm still grateful for that infp video, but i can't help but feel that it may really be ntps who have the least appreciated struggle of the types. us nfps have the privilege of easy introverted feeling gratitude, but it doesn't work that way for you. and what's worse is that very few people seem to understand this, so you guys are prone to being written off as ungrateful when you're loyal as all get out. being misunderstood and falsely accused without a fair trial sounds even more miserable than being ignored in many ways. and then there's the difficulty of not knowing what you're getting out of something, making you susceptible to manipulation and stockholm syndrome even more than nfps. that convicted me--i'm good at detecting manipulation, but i ALWAYS know in my heart of hearts if i am being manipulative, because i realize what the other person will end up getting by the end of our interaction. i will make sure to be grateful everyday and communicate it so that i stop tricking people with my depravity. it's awesome that you were able to come as far as you have, from the childhood that you had. please remember from time to time that just as i can't rightfully intake the full scale of the envy you've experienced, you also can't intake the full scope of envy those around you experience. this may be very belief-y of me to say, but i dare say you might be disturbed sleepless if you could witness the hideous envy stirring in the hearts of people around you that you'd least expect, the thing bound as an ancient beast ought be. i say all of this to say that i feel you might be being your own worst critic (and though i didn't intend for this double entendre, it so happens that your technical 'critic' function is introverted). you seem fair enough and honest with yourself too though, so who am i to make these judgements. it's hard to know what exactly to say to an entp like you, but i hope this is encouraging, as i want to start giving back after absorbing so much helpful information, so that i'm not trying to manipulate you. i will watch more videos about your type so that i can better understand what counts for effective communication. i'm pretty sure that i'm talking to you as if you were an nfj, which is probably not ideal because then you automatically get less out of this interaction. sorry about that. well, take care for now, sir! next time i drop in i will be much better informed, because i'll have read the rational male and watched videos about your type.

The overeating is likely your Te being in the shadow region. I find Te to be more of a self-control function as it is all about how things "should be". Also, Ne Dom does not help regulate either. An Si Dom for instance would control themselves better even if the Te feels threatened. Inferior Si really goes berserk by creating habits (Si-style), but bad ones (inferior position).

I've had people with irrational hatred come at me for being better than them in some respects in their own eyes. You never really know what's going to do it; Haters gonna hate. Trying to reason with them gives them an opportunity to try and drag you down to their level where they can play more mind games with you to feel good about themselves for 5 seconds before going back into an insecure loop because of your existence. It is really their immaturity that is why they have issues, but they won't hesitate to blame you for whatever they feel. You could blame yourself for that and try to change to please them, but it won't make enough difference in the long run, and it's not fair because they aren't adjusting to you or leveling-up their minds to understand and get along with you, so why the hell should you have to do things their way for their comfort? I think you've walked the line and tried to make things good among yourself and others with differences, but remember things can only be so good WHEN you are dealing with people who naturally won't get along with you! (and that ISN'T your fault at all. I'm an infp who had an ISFJ stepmother that "puts the family first," and I was not able to contribute much input growing up under her without disturbing her peace and upsetting her husband, who I think is an ISTJ. I felt totally unappreciated and unloved by them, and thought of those things more deeply than their superficial words, offered to make themselves feel that it was all good when it wasn't. Again, my observations and feelings were unwelcome. No insights were permitted. I had a "Don't go there, stop analyzing everything" policy forced on me. If me talking about how things were made them so upset, you'd think a little clear thought would fix things, but they didn't want any of it. It was like I could almost get along with them, but I could never share who I am on the level I wanted, let alone get them to appreciate it and encourage more of me. Such a shame, really... But it's typical... You are "different." I don't fully relate to the ENTP type myself, but I know good quality when I see it, and I would encourage more of it, to the depths of your potential and heights of exaltation while you do what you do. I wish more people were that way instead of doing what they do, which is to discredit and have people like you shunned for their own weird reasons, completely ignoring the greater good and so on. They're so awful. I can't accept it at all, but it is what it is. I've watched some of it Erik Thor's videos. I've always felt that there is an undercurrent of something weird about that little guy, though I have never been particularly put off by his video content, per se. I'm not terribly surprised if he could be a little two-faced or weirdly insecure. Such things come out of people in time, and then you can judge them more properly. Well, I can anyway. You seem "properly earnest." Anyway, that's enough for one comment, huh?

4:39 we spend a lot of time studying and not applying that knowledge in the most cohesive way. For me, I couldn't lose the 90 lbs until I wanted to (aka needed too). When we need to we just lock in and do shit. All we have to do is "shit" in order to move through life. I've recently connected with the idea of putting my life into phases to achieve my purpose. People like us just can't do one thing, we need to do as much of what we want as possible and have faith that we will be able to navigate our way through it. In this society, everyone is pushed to do one thing, but when you look at the lives of the most successful ENTPs, they are multi-disciplinary geniuses. I'm no longer worried about failing, that's a common theme in the lives of many ENTPs. It's as though they knew their lives weren't as important as their legacy...we also need people to help execute our ideas unless we develop habits of ESTJs.

I read a while back that although the dna ancestry tests are good on certain markers, they have holes where they just don’t have the data sets necessary to give a definitive answer. One of the areas apparently was Native American tribes, and the reason given was that there just wasn’t enough people of pure enough origin to make comparison. Also, it is apparently very difficult to tell where mixed ancestry dna, (and in the main, particularly today, all dna is mixed ancestry), comes from because some markers are shared markers and it’s groupings of markers that are actually looked for, making some groups easily confused with others. The thing that they can usually tell you is where the largest group or groups of people are today that share similar dna, if your family have not moved about too much for a few generations. (One of the things they rely upon here is how many other people in an area have tested with them - the more people, the greater the certainty.) In other words, although it’s fun and may show general trends, it’s probably not all that accurate.

Whether or not it's intended to do so, criticism of you and your work should be taken as a recognition of the power of what you are channeling and presenting. What you decide to do with that power is another story that is to be continued and I hope that you choose wisely.

The part when you said that saying "thank you" is hard for entps described my whole childhood. When I got presents I just used to take them and awkwardly say nothing until my parents pushed me to say "thank you" and it would always come out as forced and inauthentic, like they were torturing me for information or something. I sometimes still have gratitude issues but I couldn't be more grateful that I had such great parents. Thanks for doing this stuff. I bet that's your way to show gratitude to the world.

Here's a question: Is the phenomena of looping a thing? If so, just how bad is it and what are the(general) symptoms of it? Dave Powers makes the case that looping is not a problem but rather a part of your identity, like a separate type. Im interested to hear your take on this.

You mentioned NTPs struggle with giving recognition, however as an INTP (extensively verified) with nice guy syndrome I'm still recovering from, I instead suffer from giving TOO MUCH recognition and praise to others, hoping they'd return it in kind (covert contracting). As I've stopped giving it as much to others I've found that now that I'm trying to give it without alterior motives I can almost never justify giving it. The struggle and what you describe in the video is accurate, just pointing out that nice guy syndrome which a ton of NTPs tend to have may skew your claim in the eyes of the wider audience. Also, does Se Demon struggle with having unfair associations with multiple groups of people due to one person that screwed them? How does one remedy this

Thanks a lot Chase, this really hit home. I didn't face a lot of gratitude issues with my family as my mom and sister are Fi parent. However many of my fe friends have said that I'm not grateful. And i have reversed that on them saying that they are covert contracting. I also have a hard time appreciating people.

This is something I never said but I am really convicted of this. My type changed, during the process of being born again. It changed me A LOT. My previous type ? I am still keeping something of it : a pronounced taste for debate. I all know about bitterness, ungratefulness and depravity. Then, Jesus raised my Fi so much that my type changed. But, yes, I also grew overweight, not being very desired, and I was - and still am - a ginger, so middle and the beginning of high school were awful. I felt very unloved, it was terrible. I feel much better with Jesus and my over-the-roof Fi. It is like nothing can reach me deeply anymore. Some things can make me sad but I cry for a little while and feel better with Jesus. It is much better than the drugs and alcohol I used to do to deal with the pain as an ENTP. What I lacked the most was humility, but I do not know if it is an ENTP thing or a me thing. Now, I would say that I think I am better - I mean spiritually more advanced - than almost everyone BUT that it is FAR from being enough. I never felt that before being born again. PS : I am not too fan of your opened shirt and think you should keep that for your wife. May God bless you.

It’s hilarious hearing him how bad he was now that he is a dad he isn’t so bad at it but he still steals stupid shit. Haha also he really does care about people and making them feel good but most of the time he is a bitter asshole that yells about petty shit 🤣 this is why I love your videos it’s because you guys are a lot alike and it makes me really learn how to deal with him. I’m an INFJ so definitely some of issues we have is his insensitivity and me being super demanding about my wants and needs. We are learning so hard to deal lol

Question Do isfjs also have alot of bitterness. I feel like over the recent years I've become more bitter I wouldn't say I was like this before meeting my current husband. I guess reaching adulthood made me more bitter with more I learnt idk if that makes any sense. I mean I feel like crusaders in general have it worse with just being bitter about life and everyone around them. I wouldn't say that I am ungrateful necessarily but of course we can all be more grateful but I don't know where this bitterness is coming from I think it's from my se nemesis worried about how I come off and if anyone will be loyal to me. Starting to doubt I'm an isfj even though you typed me as one because I binge watch all of your vids which I don't know if many sfjs do. Lol

What about Ne inferior, isn't their paranoia also a problem, being all fear based and negative? And why would Ne demon have problems with law of attraction? They don't even percieve the consequences. Doing a great job unpacking this! I look at it this way. Might help. I have three totally different kids, all still in the home, but this is one I've really learned. If you don't learn your kid, it's your fault. As a parent, it's your job to provide your kids food, clothes, and shelter worthy of thanks in their hearts. Chicken and hamburger cost almost the same. Make the kid something that shows you know them. Buy your kid a robot because you like robots, but he likes basket balls, you are the failure Mom. Know your kids, then you have the right to teach gratitude. The caveat of course is money. But, surprise, kids understand when you are straight with them! Fess up to your kid! But! Teaching gratitude to the outside world is important if that kid is to grow up and be able to feed herself. She needs to know she'll need others for that and others aren't going to know her intimately. Nobody is an Island. And yup, sometimes, you just need to suck it up and say thanks because, yes, that person thought of you and did something for you, even if it was katchup instead of mayo. They gave you time! Be greatful.

That is just not my experience of Entps and Fi trickster. They are way too unaware of their feelings to talk about it the way that you do here (go on and on and on about how bitter they are and envious and how much real hatred you express). The same place that produces gratitude is the same place that produced bitterness, from your Fi. They weren't trying to extract Fi. They were trying to get you to live according to your Fe values, which of course, Fi always bucks against Fe standards and Norms (besides the fact that Fe critic is gonna be particularly nasty and disdainful of those things until they develope wisdom). Entps just don't get butt hurt enough to really be vengeful. Can I get a little gratitude for verifying your beliefs? What can I do to get you to stop deleting my comments? What you are describing is not optimistic Fe child, it's the pessemism of the parent/child slot. You personally and subjectively don't naturally value gratitude in your Fi, so it takes some working for you to fake the value in your shadowy Fe. And Fi in your ego hates bring inauthentic, so it's alot of work. And you are interest based. You were willing to take the video down once you realized what you got out of it. Also, you are not willing to go on that instagram guy's account because you already see you are not going to get anything out of it. I keep pointing these things out to you and you haven't had a response in like six months. Please, anyone, if you're a young entp and don't relate to any of this, it's because Csj has mistyped himself and has to do these massive Te rationalizations to get around the very obvious truths are right in front of him (besides the many projections he puts into the Entp type). His family had it right from the beginning, that he's enfp.
