Restrictive interventions, such as seclusion and restraint, are widely prevalent practices in mental health and social services in countries everywhere. They violate human rights, are inappropriate responses to tense and conflictual situations and may lead to serious physical and mental harm, including death. Alternative non-coercive practices exist that lead to both improved recovery outcomes for people who use services and a safer and more dignified environment for everyone. Four psychiatric hospitals in Czechia agreed to collaborate with WHO as demonstration sites and this film documents the initial phase of their service transformation journey.
