We're always on the lookout for a new fun idea to try and if it's completely free then that's even better!
Conkers (horse chestnuts) contain saponins, a soap-like chemical compound. When you chop them up and soak them this substance is released into the water and you can use it as laundry detergent!!
We chopped up our conkers, soaked them overnight and then strained off the liauid and there we have our conker soap! This will last in the fridge for a week.
If you are wanted to try this on a more long term basis then vou need to chop them up smaller, ideally grind them in a blender and then dehydrate them. You can then store the dried conker pieces in an airtight container and whenever you want to do a wash soak a scoop in water for half an hour before use!
You could make a whole years supply and never need to pay for washing liquid again!!
