How to connect a MIDI Keyboard OR External Mic to an iPhone using the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter! Garageband on iOS using the iPhone XS Max.

Learning Garageband for iOS has been pretty fun, especially using this new iPhone. On this video I walk through how I used the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter to connect both a MIDI Keyboard and a Blue Snowball USB Microphone to my iPhone (also works with iPad and other iOS devices). Many were wondering if wired headphones could be connected together with the external keyboard / mic and unfortunately it's not possible using the method in this video. HOWEVER, there's another way to do it, thanks to Voltaire Carandang for sharing it with me in the comments. @@numemo not sure if they ever found an answer. It sometime depends on the order that you plug adapter to phone. is adapter plugged to phone before plugging to midi keyboard? or vise a versa?

thanks because I mean, its nice to play but I want to connect it to speaker, the speakers of the iphone dont make much noise and I want to use the mic, use reverb on the phone and send it to a speaker. I wish the old 3.5 mm plug would still be there....

You should also get a powered usb hub so you can connect your midi controller, microphone, and other usb at the same time to your iOS device.

I’d say yes, but try an interface for IOS(focusrite,Studio connect;must have a 5-pin midi out port,or som of the Ikmultimedia products)

Hello, I mean.. is the additional lightning port on the Lightning to USB 3 cable can send audio? I would like to use it to adapter another lightning cabe to p2 (female) to be the output to send the sounds to the speakes.. actually the question is, how control the vst (You did and works) and send the sound to the speakes.

The only way I know how is by using an iPhone dock together with the adapter. Check the pinned comment, I made a video on this

@@josebecerra9813 Nope. There's latency/delay over bluetooth. You could listen to recorded music but you can't play. It's impossible to play keys when sound comes later.

Instead of using the charger you can use ur headphone adapter and plug in regular headphones also I think they have an adapter that has headphone jack and lightning connector

Sweet I saw a another video where he said you have to use a multi port usb hub in order to power the minilab but you are not using one so he is wrong but he was using an iPad not an iPhone... I’m using an iPhone 8 so I’m hoping it works

My keyboard has only audio out not MIDI. I used a 1/4” to 3.5mm jack from the piano and plugged the other end of the 3.5mm cable into a Y splitter (mic and headphone) which is connected to the iPhone using lighting to audio cable. However in GarageBand I can only choose the audio recorder option not piano. If I choose piano and try to record as you show there is no audio ?

In order to control midi you need a midi controller. Are you sure there’s no USB ports on your keyboard anywhere? If not then you’ll have to buy a keyboard with midi, the nektar se 25 is only $50 & plug and play as well

Yes-the audio is the hitch.Bluetooth headphones or speakers will work.We have to be CREATIVE.

he didn’t change a setting, he turned up the phone cause he was on the bass setting and he clicked lower keys before going up a bit

The X is the Roman numeral for Ten. So it's the iPhone TEN S. As in successor to the iPhone 8. They used numbers all the way up and they didn't randomly switch to letters for the X. It is just the iPhone Ten/Ten S.

Use a powered usb Hub then you can plug a keyboard, a recording interface, etc. all at the same time
