I did this a while back with an old laptop from 2007 and pronterface. Worked fine. Took it s step further and added in a webcam and google remote desktop and not only can I run prints from the laptop I can do it remotely from my phone when I'm at work and watch the whole thing through the webcam. Literally cost me nothing but a bit of time. I prefer pronterface for the ease of entering gcode commands and I even ran a PID autotune while I was at work (someone was home though).

Just curious.. I have just got myself a 2nd hand Ender3v2 and I have downloaded the Creality slicer... is there a reason why you are using the Cura program instead of the Creality one? I'm a noob to 3D printing and just surfing the tube to learn more about printing stuff.... Also where did you find out about the G-codes to use? My printer when finished a print goes back to the front left home position and the bed to the back which is useless as I want the bed to the front, do you know why it does this?
@3dPrintedSoup

I use cura because of the support that ultimaker gives it, it’s easy to use and intuitive. I don’t just use creality printers and Cura supports a lot of brands. As for gcode, there are dozens of sites like 3d cults, yeggi ect, all of which have thousands of files you can slice and use. Thanks for watching
@Paul_Au
@Paul_Au Жыл бұрын
The code that many of the free slicers use is Open Source. So Cura and Prusa (and others including the Creality slicer) are using the same base code. Cura and Prusa are regularly updating their code, where as Creality not so much. There are many more features available in the current versions of Cura and Prusa, compared to the Creality slicer. Cura and Prusa slicers support many printer brands and models and both allow you to set up custom profiles if you have a machine that is not included in the standard list. ( I have an Ender 3V2 and It is definately in both Cura and Prusa. I have tried both and personally I prefer Cura, but I think its more of a personal preference. I did try Cura first... so maybe I just liked it more because it was more familliar to me. Both Cura and Prusa are free for the full version.

Watched your video. I did connect my Ender 3 pro. It works great. The sleep mode, the first sleep mode shuts off the screen, that won't stop the printing. The next sleep mode will put the computer to sleep, that will stop the print. I deactivated the sleep modes to keep the printer going, FYI

I'm curious why you used a separate laptop rather than whatever computer you already use for modeling and slicing. I have my Ender 3 Pro USB-attached to my desktop where I do all of my work. After slicing in Cura, rather than selecting Save to Disk, I can use Print Via USB. I've found that the printer reacts differently to commands from USB than from the SD card. Pause At Height is a script you might try. Printing via USB, when it gets to the pause, the printer parks the head, waits about two seconds and resumes printing. Obviously not what you want if you're pausing to change filament or insert magnets, etc. Saving to Disk then printing the gcode via the SD card, the printer stays paused until I tell it to resume. That's my experience. YMMV. I'd be curious to know how that works for you. But the bigger question is why the need for the second computer? And were you able to get the wireless connection working?

When you say install the printer, you shouldn’t need to install anything other than cura, I don’t have any experience with the neo but a usb connection should be detected by cura.

@3dPrintedSoup
@3dPrintedSoup 9 ай бұрын
Hi, sorry to hear that. Pulling a cable out when any device is connected is usually risky. Luckily the ender is very easy to repair. Check some of the creality support pages. Worst comes to worst you can replace the main board if it is damaged- but ask some questions on the forums ect, you might just need to re flash your firmware.

@@3dPrintedSoup thanks for the help! Turns out it was the fan in the power supply. I probably should’ve figured it out before but I’ve heard a lot online about what can happen to Ender 3s. I fixed the noise by tapping the power supply a couple times and now it’s back to normal.
