Here's one connection which everyone misses. In Dark Souls 2, Eleum Loyce is freezing over the old chaos. The flame of chaos is being snuffed out by ice magic. In Dark Souls 3, Ice Magic has spread and others have access to it. Demons, as well, have begun to fade. It implies that the flame of chaos is no longer burning, and that Eleum Loyce successfully snuffed the old chaos, leaving demons to slowly wither and die without their replenishing flame.

It's implied the batwing prince(s) fled to safety with a scrap of the Chaos flame when Lothric assaulted the demons, leaving behind the "messengers" that swore themselves to him. The "Seething Chaos" pyromancy is a reference to Seath creating/mutating the batwings during/following the Demon War of DS1. They are Angelic like him. (Angel

I think people overstate the idea that the gods were tyrannical over men in this series. They were in DS1, but even by the time of DS2 nobody even remembers their names. Drangleic was a kingdom of men, as were the realms of the Ivory King and Old Iron King. Gods may still have been around, but they held little sway. So I mistrust it in DS3 when characters with an agenda claim that men are being held subservient. Any lore that comes from a character linked to Kaathe needs to be deeply mistrusted. Especially since we know the "dark lord" ending of DS1 doesnt actually result in an age of dark like Kaathe promises, which means he either lied or he himself is making this up as he goes along.

The DLC added a slightly happier ending to Lucatiel. In the base game, the last time you saw her was just before the encounter with her brother Aslatiel, who she says she never bested in a duel. So it is thought she met her end by his hand. However if you have the DLC, once you have completed her quest line, she appears one more time as a summon in Eleum Loyce, so she survived her encounter with him.

That's not how time works in Dark Souls. I know people like to say the convoluted time is a mistranslation or just multiplayer mechanics, but Black Iron Tarkus is very much dead. Whether by gravity or whatever else, you find his corpse in Anor Londo. And he died at least a hundred years ago. And he just soloed the Iron Golem for you. Huh? 'The flow of time is convoluted' ... 'With heroes centuries past phasing in and out of existence.' ... 'Who knows how much longer our worlds will remain connected.' Lucatiel died. Perhaps what her sign suggests is that she once had been to Eleum Loyce. Perhaps Mirrah is geographically on the other side from Drangleic where she and her brother traveled from after becoming cursed.
@GuardianOwl
@GuardianOwl 2 жыл бұрын
@@VioletVile You might have a point if Lucatiel's summon sign in Eleum Loyce was always there, but the summon sign literally doesn't appear in Eleum Loyce UNTIL you talk to her in Aldia's Keep. She only makes it to Aldia's Keep if you talk to her in all 4 of her locations. If event C requires A and B to occur, then C must come after A and B. If she visited Eleum Loyce before her journey to Drangleic then our interactions in Drangleic wouldn't determine if she is available to be summoned.

Pursuer's Greatshield description is changed due to lore. The Pursuer's were cursed as of DS2 and cursed others. The Description is just future-tense since all Pursuer's were brought down by the curse.
@VioletVile

Also the rest of the description goes on to say how the shield still offers good curse resist. Kind of strikes me as strangely dishonest to go out of your way not to mention that Miyazaki completely aside, they didn't change very much at all about the Curseward. The symbolism of futility to the curse is clearly in reference to the sheer weight requiring high strength to wield.

i think the description was changed due to gameplay mechanics. since curse in ds2 does not instakill the player so you can use items that "resist" it. and they brought back the instakill mechanic in ds3 hence the "resisting the curse is foolish" in the shield's description.

I was surprised to find there's a logical sequence of events/escalation from game to game: DS1: What happens when the fire starts to fade? (the fated undead comes along and relinks it) DS2: What happens when the fire starts to fade *and* the undead fated to relink it refuses? (world starts to go to shit, traveller from outside claims enough souls to take the fated lord's place) DS3: What happens when the fire starts to fade *and* the undead fated to relink it refuses *and* nobody else comes along able to take their place? (world goes fully to shit, lords resurrected who refuse to link it again, failed unworthy champions resurrected as final option to force the lords into obedience). Each game is the next step in a cycle, following the logic "what if the player character in the previous game didnt show up and link the flame". A hypothetical Dark Souls 4 following the same pattern would be "what if all the above, but then nobody returned the Lords to their thrones), but the final DLC probably does mean the franchise is over.

For Yhorm having a face, when the Giant lord didn't, i can think of it as something like a rite of passage the Giants had. There are many groups of people that intentionally scar themselves as a way to be accepted, considered adult etc. There is at least one giant with a face in DS2. Maybe it was not mandatory to go through it. Also, Yhorm probably did not grow up with his people, so that's another possible reason not to follow that custom.

Also, i think you didnt have to do any camera fuckery to see the face. It just was on a fallen enemy model on the opposite side of the area you come from. You tend to run to escape the raging battle going on, not stand back and explore :p Tho, i can at least see what you are talking about. Him possibly being from the DS1 Giant race. It is possible. So the way its been speculated is that Vendrick stole the Giant's Kinship, which allows him to imbue golems with souls. The giants that we face in DS2 aren't actually giants, rather golem vessels that were created to hold the souls of giants. The giants had found a way to skirt the curse of undeath by having bodies that were neither living nor dead, therefore why Vendrick would want that ability, of all things. So, that being said, it's possible for Yhorm to be of the lineage of the Giant Lord, considering that there surely must have giants that didn't become golems in order to continue their species. That would be why he looks a little different, and why the giants in DS2 look so much like the golems and so different from the giants in any other souls game.
@alexlichty9859
@alexlichty9859 2 жыл бұрын
To further my point, let's consider that the giants whose memories we enter are now trees. As far as I know, none of the giants we ever see in the entire series drop seeds, and are obviously much different. I would say it's safe to assume that this corroborates the possibility that the golems with giant's souls were made from some kinds of tree beforehand, or something else of the sort. Let's consider one thing further, that the only other memories we can find and enter are the dragons memories, Vendrick's memories, and the memory of the Old Iron King. Only very powerful souls can harbor memories after death, or so it would seem. The golems in Drangleic Castle are powered by souls, but have no autonomy. The Giants, however, do have autonomy, so perhaps they contain more than just the soul of a single giant? Perhaps they contain the souls of the human soldiers killed during the war with the Giants? That would explain why we tend to fight from the perspective of the soldiers and not the Giants. One thing that's apparent is that beings can increase the power of their souls by consuming the souls of others, and the golems intrinsically consume the souls of others because of how they function. That would lend more credence to the giant trees being golem vessels that automatically consume the souls of anything that dies nearby, which would mean that the giants fought in ds2 are actually golems and not living giants.

One connection I always see with Dark souls 2 and Dark souls 3 is the fact that same as in dark souls 2 From software brought back the concept of Thrones for the lords of Cinder, in the end of Dark souls 2 you never link the fire because the Throne of want wasn't the kiln of the first flame, even the emerald herald says: "What lies ahead, only you can see " , like there's something more you have to do now that you are a true monarch. In Dark Souls 3 we see what happens when we do that, we go to the kiln to fight the Soul of Cinder. In Dark Souls 1 you access the Kiln using the souls of the other Lords to access the Kiln but in Dark souls 3 suddenly we have these thrones for the Lords of Cinder this is something that only happened in Dark Souls 2 and from the Drang items you can read that Drangleic was known for linking the fire, this means that Drangleic would be responsible to revive the tradition to link the fire that was forgotten during Dark Souls 2 era. Even the story with Vendrick repeats in Dark Souls 3 where the King destined to become a Lord of Cinder refuses to take that place. But this time we kill him and brought him back to the throne so he can finally become the final Lord.

another thing to note with the shield of want, is that in DS2, all weapons you can do with the Soul of Nashandra are all "of want". Bow of Want, Scythe of Want and Chime of Want.

As much as I'd love it to be Aldia who doubted the linking and mentored Lothric into not doing so, its definitely referring the Pontiff Sulyvahn, who WAS the mentor who influenced Lothric into not linking the first flame

I remember this being spread around, but not certain if there was any evidence beyond the usual Souls(TM) speculation. Mind giving any? The soul geyser and soul stream link is rather intriguing, but hardly conducive evidence for Aldia, so if Pontiff has more evidence I'll be more willing to believe it.

Then why does SOUL GEYESER(Soul stream is a mistranslation its Soul Geyser in japanese) Aldia's signature sorcery referse to the scholar who turned the prices away: _"Sorcery imparted by the first of the Scholars, when Lothric and the Grand Archives were but young._ _Fires a torrential volley of souls._ _The first of the Scholars doubted the linking of the fire, and was alleged to be a private mentor to the Royal Prince."_ That is taken directly from the spells description and given its Aldia's freaking spell in Japan... Aldia also the only _SCHOLAR_ in the series whose against the first flame. Also as far as I know the pontiff is never refered to as a scholar in DS3 so it wouldn't make sense. I am sorry but its more likely Aldia. Edit: I know this is in the video but I am pointing it out for everyone who looked at the comments before watching.

Actually we already know how tarkus died. So Tarkus killed the iron golem in his world, but decided not to go to anor londo, instead he put his summon sign down to help others. Eventually after we summon him he decides it’s finally time, and he goes. But he falls off of the rafters and dies, that’s why you find his armor set next to the painted world in ds1

huh. I thought Pontiff was the mentor to lothric. idk the statue near the first winged knight you fight with the halberd. which looks like lothric but iwth one of Pontiffs swords. and the fact that he would take over anor londo and imprison one of them (yorskha or however its spelled) and give the other one (gwyndolin) as food to a lord. takin over the gods home would directly go against the linking since the path of linking the flame was put on by gwyn no?. eh its up to anyones own interpretation

@@gamewame2331 He was born and raised in the Painted World, though we don't know how long he spent on the outside. It seems highly likely that he was Lothric's mentor not only based on the statue of his younger self within the High Wall, but also because he enslaved Irithyll's people and began experimenting with dragons in Irithyll Dungeon, which seems to hint at an alliance with Oceiros. (Though maybe driving him mad was the whole point, but that'seven more of a shot in the dark.)

What was Alva's title in ds3 again? :3 Also her ashes talks about the heretic that was consumed by the abyss and is reborn from the dark time and again, linking her directly to zullie whose corpse is found in the Ringed City and Beatrice who was consumed by the encroaching abyss in New Londo

Karla is a shard of manus If you offer help to her she says this: "You're here to save me...?" "But I am guilty. *A wretched child of the Abyss*." "Is that something you can forgive?" And all children of manus are not born from a woman. They just apeared when manus died. So unless alva adopted her she is not the child of alva.

For all the crap that Dark Souls II gets, it's my favorite in terms of atmosphere and story. Everything has a mysterious and alluring, almost peaceful aura to it, a strange land with a mystery to uncover; majula is a sad, dilapidated town bathed in sunlight which gradually becomes more lively as the undead make it their safehaven. The forest of fallen giants is a kingdom who's days of glory fell long ago in a great battle and has now given home to overgrown plantlife, with soldiers of the past maintaining their posts as they would have during the war. The shrine of amana, a mysterious hidden sanctuary with the echoing singing of the milfanito, who eternally sing to keep the undead comforted, and those who stand guard at the entrance to the final resting place of king vendrick, the once great monarch of Drangleic who has been reduced to a mindless, wandering hollow. And then there's your character. You're not a chosen one. You're not necessarily destined to become the savior of the undead, or to link the flame. You're just a wanderer. Someone who can't even remember why they wander in such a strange land. Someone just looking for answers who gets caught up in a land that has already died. Whether to become the next monarch or not is up to you. It's really sad how gutted the end-product was (I'm sure everyone has heard that line a million times), but it's interesting to think what the game could have been. The game is so rich in lore, and I think it could have been a great departure from the main series had development gone as intended.

There are two mistakes in this video. First, Vendrick's Shield/Shield of Want actually have an ability, which is increase the amount of souls acquired when equipped in an active slot. Second, though it's a very slight detail, Tarkus isn't called Iron Knight Tarkus, nor Black Iron Tarkus for that matter, but rather simply Iron Tarkus.

One thing I love that Miyazaki does, is if there’s a misconception or if a theory is wrong he usually adds something to help players point to his original thought. Nameless King being Faraam is pretty close and shut case but some doubted it since gwyns children usually have gwyn in their name. Well the ringed city comes around and Fillianore is a child of gwyn. Which proves gwyns children don’t have to have gwyn in their name. Another theory that some deny is about the NK fight but about his dragon, the King of Storms being Ornstein transformed into a dragon. The theory sounds bizarre until you put pieces together. Like how the first phase has parts of OaS boss theme in it, or like how his armor is found not on a body but casted aside, a thing done with people who turn into dragons. Miyazaki is a smart man with the way he gives you enough to figure shit out on your own but still make you question things
