Kind of late to the party here, but great discussion... have to add a comment on the use of the word Bluegrass by other bands... around 1980, I read an article somewhere... Maybe Pickin magazine or Frets magazine or Sing Out! Magazine... it interviewed Lester Flatt and asked him what he and Earl called their band's music after they quit working with Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys. From memory, Lester's reply was something like, "I don't think we called it anything... I just said to the crowd, we're here to play some clean, sober country music for you..." I remember this because back then some Wesleyan University classmates and I started a group that we called the Clean and Sober String Band, mostly so that I could tell that story.

Old time came from dancing over a very long time and Bluegrass is a more kind of faster music for listening??? Thoughts???
