I was just over here minding my own business, catching up on the news (Colbert allows me to keep up with current events while maintaining my sanity), and then BAM RAYNA JAMES IS DEAD. WHYYYYYYYY!! First of all, I didn't even know season 5 was out, guess I missed the memo, last I checked they said it was coming out in March, but anyway that's beside the point. I just caught up to episode 10 and my heart is shattered. I cried so much lol, why can't Nashville ever catch a break, there's always something....ughhh!

Really? I think the opposite. I LOVE Nashville, but Rayna James is like the most boring snoozefest character on TV. Connie Britton, however, is a ball of fun and youth and energy and I could hang with her all day!!! SO glad to have come across this interview, or I would have never known that.

I don't think she ever wanted to come back when the show got picked up again. I remember an interview she did after the show got cancelled and she was talking about how it's bittersweet because it's sad that it ending but also it's nice to move onto other projects and move back to LA. I also don't think actors are allowed to give major spoilers out like that. One of her recent interviews prior to Rayna's death gave me the impression that she wasn't going to stay for long. She didn't outright deny she was leaving, she gave some vague I'm in it for duration explanation. It's not fair to expect actor to be tied down like that just because fans love a show. If and when feel that it's best call quits on a show, whether it's for personal or work related reasons, they should be allowed to do it without all the backlash. If Nashville doesn't get picked up for a sixth season, it's the writers' fault not the actors. It sorta went downhill from season 3. The writing for season 4 was absolutely horrendous, which was why it got cancelled in the first place. I had high hopes for this season with the new writers and network, but it hasn't quite delivered anything exceptional. All this repetitive and exhausting Gunnar/Scarlett and Maddie drama and the lack of music are not doing them any favours.

I can see where you are coming from here. I hated the "Maddie emancipation" story line and was glad to know that I wasn't the only one. Even the cast themselves wanted to distance themselves from this story line. Glad to know that CMT has corrected this, but I'm afraid that "Nashville" is now turning into the "Maddie show" because I have noticed lately that they have been giving her a considerable amount of screen time. That doesn't bode well with me considering the fact that her character is nothing more than a spoiled brat that thinks she can get away with anything. As for Gunnar and Scarlett, they have recycled their story lines so many times, that it has indeed become exhausting. As to why Scarlett would suddenly fall in love with a jerk like Damien (who I absolutely despise) after how he verbally abused her on the set of that horrendous music video (worst episode in the series, in my opinion, aside from Rayna's death) is beyond me. The fact that she also lied to Gunnar's face about needing some space just irritated me to no end as well. When speaking in terms of Connie, you are correct, she has been wanting to leave this show for quite some time, with rumors flying around about it since last year. However, it appears that she did indeed make a deal with the writers here. If I were in a situation, though, where I was not happy in a role, I just wouldn't leave the fans and cast hanging mid-season like that. The way I see it, it would've been better on Connie's part to resign after this season (while also working out a deal with the writers of course), which would've been a far classier move, in my opinion, as it wouldn't have left the cast, crew, and fans out to dry like this. Simply put...Connie knew the risks, but didn't care. In the end, she put her own personal agenda ahead of everybody else here. Because of that, I no longer have respect for her nor the interest to follow anything from her ever again.

She didn't lie. She stayed for the duration of her character. She protected the plot. Saying that she's leaving would be a spoiler. And fans sending tweets ets is not a hard work. Don't be so selfish. People change jobs, TV stars do too.

As far as I'm concerned, you have no right to bitch about it because you got on the goddamn internet. The only way to avoid spoilers is to stay off the goddamn internet. I say this as someone who has been spoiled many times. Stay off the fucking internet or be spoiled. You set yourself up for it by watching an interview related to the show. #almostnosympathy

Buenomars I'm upset, but I think if you're just upset the character died the writers did a good job. If you find yourself upset at the writers, than it's not as good or as natural of a death as it could be. I don't speak for everyone because some people are mad that they wrote her death like that. I personally feel like she got a good death that didn't feel cheap, even though it was sad. I don't know how this will affect the ratings though.

She was given a good Death it wasn't like Grey's Anatomy where they kill them off without any closure at all she had a whole episode to say goodbye. It is just the fact that I am not sure where the show goes from here. I think they are going to destroy her husbands character by taking the kids etc off him. Which will be horrible to watch. I am just worried about how the story lines are going to go now that she is gone.

Well, Rayna was a fan-favorite character and when a cancelled show gets back on air you just imagine the main characters are also staying for good. However, I think the screenwriters handled her departure in a great way, giving us some of the best scenes so far on the show. Besides, I can see some great storylines coming out of it so I guess I'm fine with it, though I loved her character and I'm definitely gonna miss her.
