Looked like Cousins dropped a bit right before the hit, making it way worse than it would have been. Oh well, Cousins has laid plenty of dirty hits himself. That pendulum swung the other way this time.

It was only just yesterday I saw a poll of NHL players who had Cousins as number 1 on the list of people they would like to punch in the head. Maybe that sort of reputation plays into this sort of hit? I am guessing so. He definitely took full advantage of Cousins in a vulnerable spot.

Not sure what cousins did tonight that deserved that hit. You’ll call out cousins but ignore guys like wilson, and Marchand cause they’re bigger names. What a fucking joke, 0 shot cousins is dirtier than either Marchand or Wilson who have both made careers out of ending guys careers and skating away like nothing happened.

Now; in the days of stevens. This wouldn't even be a penalty, and 'Keep your head up' was the mantra pre 95 lockout. If you reach for the puck you're going to get drilled, if you bend over and reach.. how did you even make it to the NHL without this happening before??

When you disrespect other players with dirty cheap shots then you have to expect the other players in the league not to see you as a hunted target for the same treatment. Cousins has done this several times recently to unsuspecting players. Like they say there is always someone who is bigger.

The league is out of control. I hate Cousins, but these bad calls must stop. Cousins, 100% put himself in a vulnerable position. If he didn't stoop his head three feet off the ice at the height of the dasher to play the puck, this hit would not have happened. Players are constantly putting themselves in a bad way, but the refs call the penalty anyway. It fundamentally changes how the game is played. Go back to hockey basics. If you play the puck, then you are eligible to get hit. Don't play the puck then any contact is a penalty. When a player puts themselves in a vulnerable position, no head-hit penalty should be called. This isn't the hockey we played.

Did Cousins have possession of the puck when he was hit? Playing the puck is not the same as making contact with the puck as it was in this case. Besides, Clifford committed well before Cousins touched the puck.
