As you know, games are my strong suite, I haven't lost a single life in any video game ever but what you might not have known is that I have a degree in numbers so to also show you how good I am at that, I will be taking on some math quizzes and proving that I'm better than a small child at some fairly basic equations.

A majority of the questions here were tougher than anything we got in school in the UK. Like, we never once did Sine, irrational numbers or trick questions

As someone that’s taken the maths needed for a 4 year degree years ago, I honestly don’t know how to do most of these questions anymore. All that stuff kinda slips out of your brain when you stop caring about math

As someone taking a math degree now, half of them would take me quite a while to solve. Taking a math degree doesn't prep you for this, heck in half of the courses i take i barely see numbers in the first place.

@Oligoden indeed. And i found it so amazing in my first year that profs don't care that you use a calculator during ciurses and such. But that was coming from all profs saying "hurr durr you'll get to uni and they won't let you use your phone/calculator" joke's on them, they just ban it in exams and there you barely use it

@@cristifilip1626 Doing a mechanical engineering currently and I can't remember a lot of the math I've learnt for the degree. It's complex, every problem requires at least a page of working, and I don't need to use it often enough (read, rarely if ever need to use it again after completing the subject).

Mathematics in a nutshell. The most convoluted wording to give a simple problem in order to confuse. A lot of the time, knowing how to complete equations take a backseat to reading comprehension.

I went through engineering school too and when you get into a real job and you forget something you don't get a slap on the wrist like you do at school, you just search it up and move on. Realistically understanding a concept is what should be tested and not who is able to memorize the best.

As someone that studies high level math I can tell you that the basic stuff just gets harder and harder so I think he did pretty good. The best indicator that he is actually good is that he managed to get correct answers through reasoning alone without remembering formulas or stuff like that.

Thank you, Literally Not My Math Teacher. Like, I get that the point of assignments is to teach the specific equation & process, but my grandpa used to tutor me when I had a hard time by showing me alternate ways to the correct answer. Might as well have used a calculator, because even when I showed my work it pissed off my teachers SO BAD. How do you explain to an A+ 10yo that their correct answer is somehow unacceptable? Math was always one of my best classes, so being pedantic over that shit was frustrating af for everyone involved -lol- (Note: the entirety of algebra and up was deleted from my brain some time after graduation)

@@EnigmaticRPG That's exactly what mathematics is about. Mathematics is about reasoning through logic. I can't think of a single problem or proof in mathematics that has just one way to solve it, that is absurd. I always tell my students that we are not calculators. Calculators and computers are way better at doing calculations than we will ever be. The point of learning math is that we do the things that the calculator can't, and that is precisely reasoning. The point is to find the simplest, most elegant way to solve a problem. And guess what, if you forget something, that's why books and the internet exist. Mathematics is not this secret dogmatic mystery cult like in Pythagoras' time. So anything that you forget how to do, you can re-learn it at any time. The point is reasoning, not memorization.

As a late Elementary/early middle grades teacher, I feel personally attacked by this video. It's literally almost every math class I've ever taught. I've sent it to to every teacher I know. They have the same confliction of hilarity and sadness I do.

I also changed my career path to avoid math. If anyone had that adorable dream of being a vet "because I love animals!", make sure you actually also have the grades to back up that choice 😂. Math and any form of science that runs parallel to math were never kind to me.
