I've only recently dived into MESBG, and have been looking at quite a few battle reports. Unlike other games, it's often not easy to follow what's happening in MESBG games, there are no clear unit movements, no units completely broken, etc. But your reports are super easy to follow, both because of the explanantions and the narrative structure. I absolutely adore them, and many thanks for all the work you put into them! Much appreciated!

Great video as always! at the 11:30 mark, Thorin would not be able to charge the mahud king because he would enter the mahud warriors control zone first. Also, i think you are allowed to shield while transfixed, are you not?

I think if you are in of the 1'' of control zone u cant ignore it. If u are transfixed u can't shield 100%.

Unless I'm reading your comment wrong or misunderstanding- he seemed closer to the king in the video.. If that were the case he'd be able to charge the king. It looks about 1mm from the king and maybe 1cm from the warrior. I'm curious to hear what you think :)

@@hlm896 So, you are saying Thorin can charge the Mahud King? If so, we think the same. Sorry for the bad english, not my first language :).

@@hlm896 Kings control zone is already cancelled. To be able to charge him he has to enter the mahud warriors control zone first, thus charging him

@@HeiSann1 Seen, You're right he'd have to charge the Mahud warrior and therefore not be able to join the fight with the King due to pairing off. Thanks for pointing this out

Really nice battle report! I am pretty new to the game but love to think & talk about tactics. Jacob, it seems like part of your army (whole left flank & few units in the middle) weren’t involved in the fight at all or joined very late. This way, it was basically 100% of Jordy’s army vs. 70% of yours. One idea how you could have solved this: You had superior mobility with your cavalry. By deploying your units very far from Jordy’s army, you could have leveraged your cavalry’s mobility to move AROUND the dwarfs while your infantry would have waited in the back. This then could have allowed you to hit the dwarfs at the same time with the full strength of your infantry (from the front) AND cavalry (from the back). Curios to hear what you & the rest of you think about it? :)

I think the problem there would be the superior range that Saruman had over Jacobs Kings, had he stayed back a turn or two none of the kings would have had camels anymore and that would have killed Jacobs killing power. Granted they mostly lost their camels anyway but I see the idea behind Jacobs original deployment

Was the move for Thorin to join into Thrain's combat at 11:30 legal? The Mahud King doesnt have a control zone but it looks like there's an unengaged Mahud behind who definitely is within 1" of Thorin. I dont think Thorin can move in that situation into just the King. Pretty sure Thorin would have to charge the regular Mahud and therefore wouldnt be able to help Thrain

Technically trapping your own guys by not backing away is allowed, but then Thorin would have gotten double dice, theoretically it's an interesting move

@@muesliman100 Not even theoretically I'd say. That's imo an obvious place where you'd not back away as thorin with a support is so likely to kill the model anyway. Definitely a move i've seen in tournaments.

@Corppi22 whether it even works depends on if Thorin can reach the king while staying equidistant from the warrior, I think he is already within an inch when the move starts. It isn't exactly clear from this camera angle

You never want to call a game before it starts but dear god this is an atrocious match-up for Far Harad. Off the top of my head i'm struggling to think of a worse one

Cool video! Thorin can't charge the king after the heroic combat. He can't ignore the control zone of the mahud warrior next to the king. It's pretty obvious... come on guys

Next question. Loved the army jordie. Do you have an army list? Any reason other than theme you didnt take thror and his upgraded guardians?

Hey mate! Actually deliberately not taking Thror was the genesis of this list. I think the rules writers shoehorning near mandatory characters for a list detracts from list building freedom. So I ran army of Thrain instead of army of Thror. Honestly the S3 didn’t hinder the list even against D6 as we’d attrition them down with throwing weapons and enough combats.

Think splitting your force up and not capitalising on your shooting cost you the game. Should have huddled up and sat back and shot for a turn or two.
