Thanks to the social engineers, all as we are left with are memories of what was and how good and clean it all was before the cancer that is social engineering, multi cultural enrichment and the welfaresociety.

I think you are right. Things have gone down hill from this time for the reasons you have stated.

What amazing variety of retail shops we had back then before it all got hollowed out by the big chains. How formal and tidy we looked too, now we all look like refugeees /students! 1959 really was a social watershed.

It must have been, and probably still is, one of the longest streets anywhere without a pub on it, I noticed a few off licenses though. Nice well made video - thanks for taking the time and trouble to make and upload it. It brought back some memories.

My Mam & Dad bought Hugh Fay shop @10.05mins in 1967.We lived in Kings bridge rd.& played on the red rec park our pitch was brick dust ! We were an Irish family took everything in our stride just worked hard and played hard despite what we came up against? Not like today where ye can't pass a remark without someone taking offence eh? Lol! Multicultural nahh!

How much did our local politicians ruined Harpurhey / Moston when looking back ' Born in Harpurhey 1964 bottom of Coran St in Willow St where it is now a old folks home facing Tavistock Sq then knocking the old houses down in 1973/4 we moved up to New Moston to a greener place and modern house with heating but my memories of just a coal fire and tin bath will always stick in my mind and going up too the chippy on Coran St with a big deep dish on a friday for tea with my big Sis ' good memories of being a nipper in them old 2 up 2 down and although a much needed updating of Harpurhey and Moston in houses the social engineering kind of destroyed the soul and nostalgia of local communities '

my dad used to live in School street and went to the church at the top of School st.( actually shown in the video) He wants to know if you can remember the name of it.He said he used to be in the 12th manchester boys brigade which used to meet there. It was also affiliated to the church at the corner of Conran street and Rochdale Road across the way from the bank.He says he knows its no longer there, but can you remember the name of it. There were two chippies on that particular stretch of Conran Street. He used to use Roaches, next door to Bill the barbers opposite Belwood Street(used to be Belper)Happy days.
