The video shows all what concerns the back of the frame: backing board, protection paper and bumpers.

Thank you for this series of videos. So helpful to those of us out here who create art and prefer to frame pieces ourselves to keep costs down. :)

What is the brown piece on the backing? The white corru-core was placed in and the next scene the backing was brown. Is it a conservation board or another color of corru-core? Great video. Thanks!

For others who may be wondering what that tool is called, if you google "framing driver" and look for ones that can use rigid pins you should be able to find something similar.

Is the gum tape acidic? Is that a problem?
@RINALDINsrl4 жыл бұрын
The gum tape used in the video is code 683G and it is 6 cm large. It is not acid-free but it is used to seal frames in the back. In fact it is fixed on the frame and on the backboard used to close the frame, thus the tape is not in contact with the work of art to frame.

Thanks for getting back to me. Your work is very helpful and informative. I assume the brown paper is not a problem for the same reason.

wow great stuff. iExcellent series. I shared with my photo club group. I couldnt make that sealing brown paper work at all for me. but the art guy at the store told me to use double sided tape and that didnt work for the MDF (man made material) frames which are non-porous which I use a lot. I think that sealing paper only works on wood frames that are porous?? Also I tried to cover the entire back with one big sheet. I see you only did 4 strips and that makes sense but my local art guy did do the whole back but they have all the tools and stuff to do it right. I just gave up and had to have it done for me

Hi Stephen, Many thanks for your comments on our videos. Brown sticky tape will not work on plastic moulding but should work on MDF. Often framers place brown paper to cover the whole back of a frame but this is unnecessary if you use a backboard such as MDF or Craft Board. I use 2.3mm craft board. The main use of the backboard is to protect the back from sharp/impacts that could damage the artwork from the back. Using only paper to cover the back will not provide that protection. Mal Reynolds

Please tell me should I use a certain tape like the one you used, or can I use any tape?
@anacampos37184 жыл бұрын
I think you should use a kraft tape alike in order not to have marks on your wall

@@anacampos3718 thanks. I used brown self adhesive tape
@MarcusCato2754 жыл бұрын
For conservation framing you should use pH neutral tape. Any adhesive you use to secure anything should be acid free (wheat starch glue or rice glue).
