✮ Find out more about Console 1 - softu.be/Console1 ✮
Hi everyone!
Welcome to a new video series featuring a variety of artist stories working with Console 1.
In this first episode, our good friend Todd from Urban Sound Studio travels to Bavaria with his Console 1 and the Solid State Logic XL 9000 K-Series channel strip add-on.
His mission? To record and mix a collection of 19th century songs by Gustav Mahler, performed by baritone Laurence Gien, and pianist Geoffrey Abbott, in a period acoustic and using a period piano.
In a situation like this, high-fidelity sound means everything.
Console 1 is discounted by $100/€100 until the end of the year, so whatever your style now's a great time to upgrade your sound, your workflow, and your entire music-making experience.

So glad I purchased the Console 1 as well as Fader I smirk at the guys who sold theirs after a month of not getting to know the equipment. I cannot after a year of owning both find a better setup! And No Longer Looking! Love It Love It Love It!

Really good sounding place for sure. But with Console 1, it is so easy to sculpt the sound we want to hear. I've one in my studio and very pleased to work with.

@@SoftubeStudios Variety of taste: I fully understand. You have to answer your clients' demand. I'm a (non pro) jazz musician and I need few effect (compression, dynamic and a bit of eq). Yes, it sounds natural and transparent!

We need a list of everything else in the chain..preamp mics etc. Without proper capture the console 1 can only do so much.

That's the general rule - record like there is no mixing, mix like there is no mastering ... room and mic placement are the most important (and the most overlooked) things in the recording chain.

Hey there :) Todd made a video for AEA about this session too, with a little more information about mics and preamps - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/htihhK6ksc6Zh40.html As far as I'm aware he had a pair of 414s back in the room, two Blue Dragonfly mics over the piano strings, an AEA R88 stereo Blumlein mic between the piano and Laurence, to capture a natural blend, and a Neumann for the vocal (possibly a TLM 49, but I'm not sure... perhaps Todd will correct me if I'm wrong). I hope that's of interest :) Best, /George

As George stated, 414s to capture the room, a R88 in the crook of the piano to capture a little of the close sound, Blue Dragonfly mics over the hammers, and a Neumann TLM 103 (George was close on this) placed about 5 meters from the vocalist. The goal was to match the acoustic sound of the room, rather than capture the perfect studio environment. When blended together, we felt these mics helped to recreate what a listener in the audience would experience. Thank you for checking out the session.

But no mention of preamps here but I found it in the other video ....thanks

@@peppermintpasta Apollo preamps, but with the RPQ preamps for the stereo ribbon mic. (it tends to need a ton of clean boost to run properly) So it was basically a session of real clean preamps. Disclaimer - I did use the Neve 1073 unison preamps on the Apollo, but only for setting levels. No EQ was used when tracking through the unison preamps.

Would love to see how to use Console 1 with other orchestral recordings, primarily done with samples (Spitfire products as an example). Strings are one of the hardest items to EQ and correct, and would love to see someone actually engineer those. I work on projects heavy in orchestral samples, with lots of piano and strings.

When will we get Console 1 control of UAD's Neve plugs?

Liked the video!, but you should match loudness between Console 1 enable/disable. Also it's possible to hear the vocal compressor pumping (pretty unpleasant), and that's not desirable in this kind of music.
@SoftubeStudios
@SoftubeStudios 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Arturo. Glad you liked the video. And thanks for reminding us about loudness matching our examples - we totally agree it's best to present these examples as close to matched as possible. It's not always easy to make it 'like-for-like', so to speak, but we'll remember to give it a little extra thought for our next video ;) /George

@@SoftubeStudios Thanks George, you were very kind. I really enjoy my Console 1. I have Volume 2 too, which Softube plugs do you recommend for classical music?
@ToddUrban
@ToddUrban 5 жыл бұрын
@@arturovidal5536 Volume 2 has the TSAR reverb, which is beautiful and natural when dialed in correctly. Also, don't overlook the Drawmer, which is easy to use, but can be extremely natural sounding.

I'll buy the console 1 9000. If you decide to make it 50% off. I just got the T rack 5 Max.. half price, 250 dollars. The white channel is known to be basically identical to the softube 9000.. So why should I spend another 300 dollars on something that sounds the same? Doesn't make sense to me. But.. I must say, I'm surprised at the audio fidelity on the T rack 5 plugins.. the 670 matches the UAD fairchild nearly indistinguishably.. I hate the fact it does. Because I want to buy the console 1 stuff because I've invested in a console 1.. I even own basically all of the softube plugins as well.. But if IK multimedia comes along and does that.. for that price point.. then thats crazy. I cant sit here and deny it unfortunately. Feel sad, because I really didn't want to believe that the t rack could match anything expensive. I literally wanted to feel fancy and expensive while I was mixing. Ah well. Reality sets in. Guess I just have to accept it.
